headlight recall - stolen afterwards

Has anyone who has had the headlight recall done have their lights stolen?

Just curious to see the damage.

Nobody is gonna be able to take the headlights after the data dots/bracket thing was done. We tried to remove my driver side headlight when PoLo installed my Hella Horns because it would have made the install easier.

After about a 1/2 hour of yanking, removing the wheel well cover things, and trying to even SEE where the new bracket was, we gave up and left the headlight on.

It's actually gonna annoy me when I want to start modding my headlights...

I dont have the data dot/bracket install so my comments are pure speculation, but I dont think they will stop thieves. I figure once they crowbar enough of the headlight out-they reach in, grab the bulbs and they're gone...the housing means nothing to them

The bulbs aren't worth that much either... they want the ballasts. Do the Data dots protect the ballasts?!?!?

i won't get into the details of the data dots design (just asking for more thievery), but yes, it does a very good job of protecting the ballast.

for those of you with datadots installed..i have a question. i just recently picked up an 02 gle around xmas and don't know if the datadots and bracket have been installed. how will i know if i have it installed already? does anybody have a picture of what it looks like? how much does it cost to have installed? will my warranty still cover the cost of installation or what?

You will have little stickers on your headlight and the front windows that say "Protected by Data Dots." This is a recall so you don't have to pay for anything.

don't post a picture...again, just asking for more thievery.....before the data dots, the ballast was connected to the headlight and nothing else. after data dots install, they added some more stuff (brackets). try to take yours out. if it seems almost impossible, like sometyhing holding you back, then guess what genius

i dind' tmean rip them out. i mean take them out like normal. remove the 2 top screws and try to remove it...if it seems like it's just not letting you, then you prolly have the brackets below installed and therefore you have data dots.

This is a recall for all HID '02/'03s? Do I simply tell my dealer I want the headlight recall done?

MY 4 Cents.... even if you have Data dots they will do more damage, is just the reputation Maximas have (02+) Thiefs are not going to check if you have data dots
all they are looking is an easy 300 bucks or what ever they sell them for... I will do the recall after the angel eyes install....

come on polo dont tell me that you honestly think those useless brackets and dots will stop anyone. A crowbar does wonders. People dont loose ur Alert, its far from over.

Actually, not only are the headlights and ballasts secured by new brackets, but the ballasts have actually been moved off the headlight alltogether (to an "undisclosed" location that is MUCH harder to get to)

If you want to know if you have the data dots recall, just check your curb weight sticker (it's the sticker with the weight and VIN number and various other info on it on the lower right corner of the driver's side door jamb when you open the door). Not only do they apply the DataDots to the ballasts/bulbs/housings, they apply them to the sticker too. you will see them stuck all over the curb weight sticker and the whole thing will be covered by clearcoat.

It still sux because how do the thiefs know that you have the Data Dots protection kit. Thery would just mess your car up withought the headlight. I mean, you're still gonna have to get it fixed.

Really, I asked my dealer if they relocated the ballast and they said no. They just said they installed brackets on both sides of the headlight making it impossible to remove them now.

I've seen it with my own two eyes. The ballasts used to be right near the housing and now they are not.

Unless I'm mistaken and the ballasts were never near the housings. I didn't pay too much attention to the ballast location before the recall was done.

see the pic posted above? that sticker is on the headlights and elsewhere(forgot where someone said). leave it on there and it's somewhat obvious you have the data dots installed.

and basically, what the data dots do is if your headlight shows up on ebay or something, the data contained in the dots (data dots, duh) can be looked up in the database nissan's (supposed to be) keeping to match the headlights to your car.
its sorta like putting your vin # on the headlights/ballasts but the data dots are a lot harder to scratch off

yup this should eventually dry up the market. can't resell them on ebay. can't rip them out in 10 seconds...we just need everyone to get the recall done.

eventually the bastards will see the stickers and move onto a max without the recall........
