Mechanic screwed me??

Yeah, about 7 day's ago, i took my car to a local mechanic to get my plugs changed. The dude changed them but when i got in the car after it was finished, the car started shaking madly and it was driving real rough. Oh yeah, a few seconds later the ses light came on. So i drove it back to him and he hooked up a diagnostic tool. He looked real scared because i was ****ed at him and was asking him what he had done to my car. The diagnostic said that coil #5 was misfiring. Anyway, he took it back in his shop and like 20 minutes later, brought it back out. The ses light was gone and the car wasn't shaking and drove smoother. But i do notice that it is still shakes just a tad and it still runs a little rough. I mean, when i give it gas, the rpms will rise, but theres no real power, just slow buildup. Could he have "fixed my coil" or did he do something to cover up the problem and jack me?? I have spent so much money to get my car running right and it has not done so. If i get new coils, will this fix all of my problems?? Can somebody give me the discussion links on the ignition coils please??

Thanks alot

Hard to say... what year is the car? Have all 6 of the coils been changed (if it's a 2k-2k1)? Maybe one or more of the coils are starting to go up, and he didn't know...

The first mistake was probably just that, a mistake (maybe he forgot to plug the harness in tight enough, or it came loose). The current vibration, regardless, SHOULD be checked out by him. I'd give him a chance here. It could have been an honest mistake.

I got a 00 se auto with 60,200 miles on it. You notice any differences when you got your coils changed?

I haven't changed mine yet. I do believe they're due for changing though. I get some periods of dead acceleration (where it accelerates like a damn Civic), while sometimes it's fine...

Hate to say it...buy maybe you should try a Nissan dealer....they may be scum, but at least "some" of them actually know how to fix a Nissan (the ones around here definitely do)

he put in the ngk platinums, the stock ones that came with the car. And yes, i have taken it to the dealer, but they alway's say it drives fine. But i know how my car is supposed to drive and the throttle response is just not there.

Can someone give me the links for the discussion of the coils? Anybody tried aftermarket coils?

The TSB that replaces the coils is HIGHLY recommended. I had my coils replaced on my 2k GXE and it made a world of a difference. Before the car would stutter during acceleration. Of course the dealer said it was bad gas (I use 93 octane) then he said it was a winter gas (more BS). I found the TSB on the org and took that to them. Of course they couldn't deny it then. Had all 6 replaced. From the butt dyno I probably picked up 15hp and the car drove much smoother.

I got over 60,000 miles on my 00 auto max, im out of warranty. Before you had your coils replaced, could you tell a major differience in loss of torque? Can somebody post the links for the coils discussions??

Winter Gas!!

Anyway, yeah the hesitation should go away with new coils. My coils went out at 82k. Don't wait that long! Just change me all out. The check engine light flashing and the car sputtering feels horrible and really embarrassing if you are in traffic. DaveB will hook you up with a discount or check out Greg V. at Mossy Nissan Oceanside or Autozone.com has them peace.
