too much brake dust in rear

is it normal to accumulate a lot of break dust in the rear brakes?? i drive an automatic and rarely use my e-brakes. if i do thats if im parked on an incline. i thought the brake dust is suppose to come from the front but the rear seems to get dirtier and faster then the fronts. should i have nissan look at this or am i just paranoid and forget about it

Unless you're using your emergency brake while your car is moving, there is absolutely, positively no way whatsoever that using your emergency brake will cause a build of brake dust.

You really should use your emergency brake to hold the car in place, not the transmission (obviously you'll place the transmission in Park, you poor automatic driver), but set the e-brake before you take your foot off the brakes. If your car moves, you need to set the ebrake harder, or get it adjusted.

Wash your wheels carefully, get behind the spokes. Dry them and wax them. Monitor the buildup of brake dust. Make sure that what's building up on the rears IS brake dust.

If it really is, then it probably should be looked at. How does your car behave under heavy braking? Does it nose-dive? If not, your front's aren't working (which might explain the buildup on the rears.)

The front wheels should collect more brake dust than the rear on our cars...not sure why you have the reverse...

I noticed this too. My rear wheels always get dirtier than my fronts. Brakes work great though.

Could be attributed top different pad compounds front and rear.

I agree cheaper metallic pads will leave mounds of brake dust. Have you had the pads changed at all???

The rear pads maybe degraded do to age. If you want to get rid of it by Ceramic Pads this is what I did. Good Bye brake dust.

These are my brakes that the car came with new. Oh well, as long as they work. I just have to clean them more often.

I think someone is playing with the E-Brake while driving J/K

I had a lot of build up on mine also. Sometimes it was more front than rear other times it was more rear than front. It all depended. If you have the time and means remove the rear tires inspect the bads. You don't have to remove the caliper or anything just look at the front pad to make sure it isn't cracking or falling apart. You will be able to tell without adoubt. When I replaced mine there were cracking. Fell apart when I removed the caliper, it was the only thing keeping them together.

Other than that just a pain in rump. When it come down to replacing the pads go for the ceramics if you have the extra cash.

My 2K3 GLE also produces more brake dust on the rear wheels. I only notice it if I go two-three weeks without washing the car... Blasphemy!!! you say? Anyway... It does seem a little unusual, but the brakes seem to work fine.... I wouldn't worry.

Its possible that the parking brake may be slightly seized so as not to totally release. I think someone on the org had this happen and had to get a new parking break cable, pads and have the rotors turned.

i have a 2k3 and just got back from the dealer because of a blown ABS activator (under warantee) and they checked the brakes for me...75% left for front and 25% left for rear. I was like that didnt sound right but the service manager told me that all maximas are like that with the rear brake pads wear out faster. So...i dont know.
