'03 max goes to the snow

last week a bunch of us went up to tahoe for new years, and one of the cars we took was my friend lowered '03 maxima (ya i know, bad idea, but it was either his or mine :P). poor thing got tortured and had to be pulled out by our friends yukon xl

basically the whole car was buarried and had become one big block of snow digging it out was a pain in the ***.

wow was that from one storm? I haven't seen a storm like that in CT since 2001 when our town had 15-20 inches and my dads Volvo got stuck in the road because the plows hadn't cleared us yet

i believe that was 3 nights worth.

getting it up there was even worse. our cabin was at the top of a road that was an incline and had not been plowed. at the time we did not have chains and had to drive it up the hill without chains. the first time we lost traction and slid into a snow bank on the side of the road lol, that took about an hour and a half to dig out. fortunatly we got chains for the way back.

we got back on the 2nd and i think his car is still dirty

wow ...lucky me ... i guess

I spent New Years at South Lake Tahoe as well and i saw and experienced the storm first hand with my '03 Maxima. Lots of snow. I have the stock Potenzas with 50% left on them and believe it or not, with 4 people in the car and nice chains on the front i had NO problems at all. I drove during the snow storm, roads were pretty bad but i kept surefooted with the rest of the traffic. I was surprised that the stock tires held so well and car felt safe. Well, i admit, i didn't go over 30mph for a second and i had 4 people inside.

Anyway, for the next trip, i am putting a pair of nice Michelin A/S tires on the rear axle and the chains on the front Potenzas. That's until i safe money for real Winter tires.

What tires was your friend running on his lowered Maxima? Did you have ANY trouble with the chains?

I'm curious too about the chains. Last year I saw an 02 /03 up at Homewood and I thought they were crazy. I fortunately can take my Quest but even with chains I hate the drive. The one part I hate about going to Tahoe is the drive in and out.

we did everything last minute for this trip. got the house like a week before new years which was amazing, and we didnt want to spend the money for an suv.

actually the tires on the front of the car are khumos(sp?) which sucked *** in the snow. but once we got chains we did all right. we had 4 ppl in the car, and the drive back was fine, we slid around a little bit, but nothing that couldnt be controlled.

Have you ever driven a '03 Max SE, AT, in a snow storm, on a two lane mountian road without chains with the stock Potenzas? Please share some tips on how did you and your car survive? I'm curious.

Did you guys check my stats at all?
I flippin live in CO and guess what....it snows here, sometimes like an SOB!
I just put Ziex 512's on because the potenza's were shot but it' sno big deal.
As long as you know how to drive and read the road. Kinda like offroading except everything is white.
TX & CA.....you people shouldn't be allowed to drive in the snow, or rain for that matter!
I couldn't even begin to count the # of TX and CA plates I see off of the road during ski season. "Well...bubba I've got 4WD so I'll just floor it and pass all these slowpokes" sheesh!
The last snowstrom I watched some guy in a new 3 series Benz hit his brakes and slide sideways across an offramp. So what does he do when he finally stops? Floors it and slides into the car beside him andhten gets out and starts screaming at the car he just hit. Moron! Oh yeah .... CA tags.
