OBD-2 For laptops???

Does anyone have any type of OBD-2 reader that you plug into your laptop? My buddy has one for his VW and it scans real time values such as throttle position, current rev's, speed, trouble codes, and such. I want one for my max. Any sources? thanks

I think DaveB recently talked about buying one.

No, you cannot adjust anything (except CLEAR trouble codes) via OBD-II.
Advancing the timing only occurs with Nissan's Consult-II, which I believe speaks proprietary extensions of OBD-II (theorizing this based on the fact that it hooks into the OBD-II port I believe)

This brings me to another idea... I wonder if anybody's tried to reverse-engineer the Consult II's proprietary extensions? That'd be phat if someone could build a clone of some of Consult-II's functionality in an OBD-II scantool

It can only read data, it can't write to the ECU.

I'm surprised Nissan's ECU can even be written to. I know some ECUs can't. There's a mod available for my '95 talon TSi where someone has to actually replace the EPROM and provide specialzed software. Once you have it though, you can actually use a laptop to adjust fuel maps, etc... No need for an AFC once you have this. But it require soldering in a whole new EPROM.

The only thing I could find on anyone trying to hack a consult II was this:

I bet there's no way for anyone to sell something like that legit.
