Stock Fogs are crap!

Did anyone else have their fogs crack on them? Just noticed that mine cracked as I was washing my car today...both of them were cracked!!! Are these fogs that poor of quality? Trying to decide if I should buy a new set and put the Xpel on them for added protection or I should do something else instead. I remember someone mentioning that it could be due to the heat of the fogs that cause them to crack. Thanks for any feedback.

I cracked my driver side...then a rock broke through.

I got a new one and covered both in Xpel (for headlights). That stuff is thick. I now have a crack in my passenger side...so I don't think it helps much.

Yup, driver side cracked on mine too, pretty common I hear... I remember reading about some plastic film you could buy to protect them, dont have a link though.

That's one thing us '00/'01 5th gen owners have over '02/'03 owners...plastic lense fog lights. '02/'03s have glass lenses for the fog lights, and those tend to crack easily. I've never had a problem with my plastic lenses, and I've always wondered why Nissan switched from plastic to glass.

And no, the '00/'01 fog light kits do not fit properly for '02/'03s. Unfortunately, when Nissan changed the design of the front fascia, the fog lights became larger.

Peace.

Yep, mine still look like brand new. Now where is that piece of wood for me to knock on?

I like the size/placement/whatever of the 02-03 fogs better, but NOT that they went to glass...especially since one is cracked now!

There was a thread someone went to Wallmart or something and got a set of driving lights. Fit was real good. Can't find that thread though.

Not sure why they would have glass fog lights and plastic headlights. Just doesn't make much sense. The fogs are much more likely to take debris...

I have a crack running the length of one fog and a small hole in the other.

I've had both in rain, flood and whatnot. They're still going strong.

But i'd like to replace them soon. With what? I don't know.

my passenger side is cracked, only cuz i drive on the highway where a lot of big-rigs drive, so there's a tendency for small rocks to get kicked up. 3M makes some sort of clear tape you can apply over the lenses. some people even put them over the front bumpers too...

www.invinca-shield.com. I got the full clear bra for the front of my car. It came with a few extra pieces for practice which I used on my fogs. No cracks yet. Pics and install instructions on my site

www.cardomain.com/id/housecor

Also, you can get small pieces pretty cheap from xpel.com

Stupid, POS glass cover.

So I'm driving along the freeway today in the carpool lane with a bus about 1/2 car length ahead of me in the adjacent lane. I see a black cloud blossom from under the bus (initial thought is "why didn't I hear his exhaust pop"). Cloud rapidly disappears and I now see a few dozen mechanical pieces that clearly just fell off the bottom of the bus come flying into my lane. Managed to avoid the big one, but of course when I get home I discover that one of my fog lights is completely blown out.

Question is, can I replace my pair of '03 glass fog lights with some '00 or '01 plastic lights, or did the front bumper change in such a way as to make this impossible?

I may go with HID bulbs ALA skalberti. Any problems switching those in?
EDIT: After checking the price on a conversion I think I'll stick with halogen. Holy crap, I'm not feeling the love with putting $500 directly in harms way.

Short answer to your question of using the '00-'01 fogs. Nope. Just scroll up.
