Clutches

OK, Here I am with a new suspension, reprogrammed computer, all the rest of the standard small upgrades and 54000 miles. I can tell my clutch needs some adjustment, and I want to know two things.

First, how many miles are stick shift drivers getting out of their clutches before adjustment and does the adjustment help eliminate a fully engaged clutch that slips once in a while? Ancillary to that, does it help the clutch begin to engage sooner during the pedal release?

Second, has anyone put an upgraded clutch on their normally aspirated 2000/2001 Maxima and if so what brand and stage level? Are you happy with the results?

Thank you for your help.

Maxima have hydraulic clutch, so else than bleeding there's no adjustment!! If it slip, it's probably cause too much of abuse

You can change the travel of the clutch pedal (Don't remember were i've see that)

For the perf clutches:
Yes some org members have done it.
I've seen someone with a SPEC clutch and Fidanza flywheel!!

If you changed it, take a performance one!!
Take a look at http://www.specclutch.com/ and you're gonna have an idea!!

First, it is possible to change the clutch peddal travel.
However, if the clutch is slipping, it is most likely about to go. I would get it to a shop soon to be inspected.
I plan on going with the ACT clutch when mine finally gives.

Good luck.

OK! This is great information. A stock clutch disc and pressure plate from Nissan is $215 so $269 plus shipping is a negligable difference. Even Stealin's price of $345 is not deadly.

Now comes the whopper......Given the proper tools and access to a lift, how hard is a clutch install?

I do have the real deal Nissan shop manual, so I have all pertinent info.

I'm assuming you have to drop the tranny. Time consuming job I say.
