Quickest manual Maxima?

I am in the market to replace my good ol 95 SE 5speed and have only driven a 2000 SE 5 speed and found that car to be SLOWER than my 95. What other years or models are the fastest manual 5 speeds or 6 speeds? I am even considering an Altima 3.5 SE to get the same speed as my 95. Thanks!

stock for stock, the 02-03 6MT Maxima's rock, should do 14.40's at 96-97 no sweat. hell, the 02-03 4AT Maxima's are doing 14.70-14.90's at 92-95. 0-60 6MT 6.0 flat 4AT 6.5. Both are awefully quick. vq35 owns.

An 00 5 speed is faster than a 4th gen 5 speed, so I'm not sure why you found it to be slower.

why would it be faster?

the 4th gen (gxe) 5spd weighs considerably less than a 2k-2k1 5spd. In stock form the 2k-2k1 has heavy 17 stock rims weighing in at 50lbs a piece and just cause it has a higher peak horsepower dosesn't make it faster.

this taken from www.maxima.org-----> shop talk ----> battle of the 3.0's. Try reading that article, it analyzes power to weight ratio, wheel weights, etc.

fastest NA 4th gen w/ slicks: 13.8 @ 101 mph
fastest stock 5th gen (that i've heard of): 15.1 @ 91 mph (?)

That was a bad test, C/D redemmed that with a 6.0 flat to 60 and possibly could have gotten a 5.8 or 5.9. Who knows if M/T would have tested it they could have gotten a 5.8 or 5.9 to 60.

exactly how is it faster?

they both run the same hp/tq until higher rpms. The 5th gen weights more than the 4th gen. The 4th gen has a great power to weight ratio under 6200 rpms that a 5th gen.

if you mean faster as in a highway run stock vs. stock... then yes. Otherwise everything else is just relative.

" If you want 17" it's an option in the SE, but a 2k SE comes stock with 16".

The power to weight ratio of the 00 vs. the 4th gen is noticeably better in the 00. It's only about 200 lbs heavier but has 32 extra horsepower.

Eitherway, it's not just me saying it's faster - it gets faster numbers from every review I've read. You also can't compare a 4th gen with _slicks_ to a stock car running with stock tires!

Also, though very hard to find, a 00 GXE can be had with the 5 speed, and the 15"ers.

From what I can tell, the playing field is level across the Maxima years 95-04. The 2k2+ are the quickest stock, but they don't respond near as well to mods as the 4th gens. The 00-01s are capable of 14.3s with just an intake and y-pipe. Pretty much a manual 95-04 Maxima with NA mods is capable of lower 14s@98mph on street tires. It just depends on which generation and year you want.

Darbowmach, I might just be in the market to sell my 2k3 TE 6 sp., if my local friendly Infiniti dealer can get me into a G35 at the right price.

The 6 speed is admittedly a little notchy, but not bad once you get used to it. I haven't regretted my 6 speed for one second

hmmm, so, let's compare a gutted 4g GXE to a fully loaded 5g SE. i mean, that makes sense.

oh, btw, my GXE never came with 17s. Ever.
2nd, my GXE wasn't "considerably" heavier than a 4g 5spd.

fastest stock 5th gen (that i've heard of): 15.1 @ 91 mph (?)
w/ y-pipe, ooglie air filter, and a cut out silencer, i ran 14.80s@96mph in my 2000 GXE 5 spd.

oh, it also had eibach pro-kits (might have helped with the launch), a RSB, and 18s that weigh 45lbs each.

If your question is which is the fastest - the answer is clearly those with the 3.5.

Both the 4th and 5th gens can be made fast.

I've tested my car with a G-tech and it tells me I'm getting 5.7-5.9 0-60s and 14.2s@102mph. The G-tech is peice of junk in my book and there's no substitute for the track.

I believe the NA record for both quickness (ET) and fastest (MPH) is still a 4th gen with the MEVI, intake, y-pipe, JWT ECU, and slicks (Nealoc187). His is a 13.6@101. Blubyu2k2 is a close second with 13.7s@99mph on slicks and NA mods.

I've ran 15.2 with a cone filter and 15.1 with a Y-pipe and I am AUTO. Stock 2k-2k1 5spd will definately do mid 14s with a good driver.

good point, but, the only REAL hp gaining mod is the y-pipe and a dynoed 5hp is not going to net 3 tenths in a quarter mile.

the aftermarket tyres also helped out with traction issues, but, i was still getting 2.2-2.3 60's (which is crap).

so, a 00-01 5spd GXE is very capable of getting 14.90s, imho and experience.
