So i was leaving my parents house after I watched the panthers win. And as I pulled out on to the main road I was still in first gear. I decided to get on it, and my car really didn't go anywhere....I think the rpms were rising but I wasn't accelerating as normal. The only thing I did different was I was in a hurry to get back home and I didn't give the car time to warm up. The car just felt like it was sick. But by the time I got home, it was performing as usuall. Any SUggestions.

 

Are you a 6-speed? If so, it could be the initial signs of a slipping/failing tranny.

 

Yep....I am six speed. I was wondering if maybe it was something to do with a cold clutch....

 

how cold was it in sc today? It was -5 in NH for 4 days straight and my clutch didn't do that, but I also let the car run for 5 minutes while I scraped bulletproof ice off my windows.

it's probably just that you got on it too hard when it wasn't warmed up.

should push the car over 4000rpm when it cold... let the car warm up first then you can beat on it

 

I think Nyc2kMax means you shouldn't push it over 4000 till it warms up. Same goes with auto's as well. With my auto, when its cold, I try not to get above 2-2500.

 

My 5spd never does that even when it's 5F outside, although the clutch pedal and stick shifter action feels like molasses... but then again, I don't think I ever really "got on it" when it was still cold, so for all I know the clutch could be slipping anyhow...

 

for those of you who have had this happen, could you post your mileage, and how often you beat on it, first owner?

I've already had to replace the clutch in my Dad's 2000 SE 5spd (80k), I used the OE disk and it's fine (was slipping like a ****).
In my 3rd gen I've never had this problem. My exedy sure feels alot stronger/grippier than my Dads OE clutch too (I dont like his, I want to replace it, but he doesn't want me to).

 

NONE of my MT cars (i've had 5 so far + trucks I've driven) ever slipped due to cold temps including my maxima 6 spd, I live in PA. It's not normal for a cold clutch to slip, unless there is some really weird quirk with Nissan I'm not aware of. I've been driving stick since 1983. I wouldn't consider it normal at all.

I never warm up my cars either. My other car now has 135k on the original clutch and it runs like new! yes, I know how to get a lot of life out of a clutch. I'm never on the power until I know it's locked up. The more you slip the clutch for launches, ride it at stop lights, etc...the sooner it will fry.

 

I think its just the ECU. I know when my car is cold, it doesn't pull hard at all, very sluggish. Assuming you don't have clutch slippage, I would say this is normal.

 

damn thats strange i have a 2k3 max 6spd and it hasn't done that to me and i hope not, but i must tell u the other day temperature was at 5 degrees and i got on it a lil omg i feel it move so much faster lol...cold air going into the air now thats what i call a cold air intake with temp at 5 lolol

 

Dumb questions but are you sure you let the clutch out all the way?

 

My clutch does not slip when it's cold. I was refering to sluggishness in cold weather.
