Airbags

Hey guys,
Anyone know what to do when the airbag light starts to blink? Went over the 36,000 mile warranty and don't want to go in to Nissan and get charged up the @$$ if I dont have to. Thanks in advance.

When my airbag light started to blink on my 95 (50000 miles) i took it into the delarship and they reset the light for free. But I read somewhere on the forum you can reset it yourself doing something with the drivers door dome light thingy or something like that.

Here's the 2K+ reset procedure courtesy of STUDMAN and Maxcosity:

Note: Timing is KEY, use a stopwatch if you have to.

1) Turn IGNITION on (but don't start car)
2) After the AIRBAG warning lamp lights for 7 seconds and then goes out, turn IGNITION off within 1 second.
3) Wait 4 seconds
4) Turn IGNITION on (but don't start car)
5) After the AIRBAG warning lamp lights for 7 seconds and then goes out, turn IGNITION off within 1 second.
6) Wait 4 seconds
7) Turn IGNITION on (but don't start car)

9) Wait 4 seconds
10) Turn IGNITION on (but don't start car)
11) Wait 3 seconds
12) Turn IGNITION off
13) Wait 2 seconds
14) START Car
15) Turn IGNITION off
16) Wait 2 seconds
17) START Car

AIRBAG warning lamp should blink for 7 seconds and then go out and never come back on. If it does, then you have a problem.

Unfortunately they're only covered by the 3/36 warranty. The seatbelts are covered for the life of the car though.

Mine

Blinked while under warranty and it turned out the seatbelt sensor was bad and they had to replace the whole seatbelt assembly.

- Turn the ignition switch to 'on' but don't start the car.
- Press the dome light switch in the door jamb seven times within 10 seconds.
- Turn off the ignition switch.
- Start the car. The light should turn off after a few seconds.

If it comes back on, get it checked. Don't want your mom driving around
with without a working airbag.
