Those with Ipod, a question...

Since search is down...

I just got an Ipod and want to use it in my car. How do the FM transmitters sound on your stereo as opposed to the tape deck connectors? Just wondering if its worth the money. Also open to any suggestions. Thanks.

My FM transmitter is ok, but since I have an aftermarket head unit now, I just plug it into the aux input for a direct connect. I think that the sound is about even if you have a good FM unit. I think you lose a bit of the bass if you use the FM transmitter.

I can't stand the sound of tape adapters. Hell, vinyl records sound better than that to me...

Most FM transmitters work pretty well, but I've never used one in the Maxima.

I have an FM transmitter from Belkin. It sounds OK. I am pretty happy with it, but it can be a biitch to adjust the mini amp on the cigarette adapter, so that the sound isn't all "lispy." And when you get the sound to be good, sometimes the sound level on the Bose headunit is at 31, so you're shiit outta luck if you want to go louder. That's the only negative.

The FM transmitters are either really good or really bad depending on what area you are in. I bought a $20 Sony Cassette adapter for my car and it sounds great much clearer and better than the FM transmitter.

Thanks for the comments, fellas. I'm checking out some stuff at everythingipod.com. They've got a deal for a FM transmitter, charger, case, and mounting clip for $50. I'm kinda hesitant because the transmitter uses two AAA batteries, looks kinda cheap.

Man its really worth just hooking it up into the auxillary port, mine sounds better than most cd's with it.

Is there any way to make songs that you transfer from CD's to the iPod (mp3's) have the same volume? For example, a CD that I play is extremely loud on the Bose at the "24" setting on the deck. When I put the CD on the iPod, the same song is not nearly as loud at the same setting.

I tried to switch to an FM transmitter, even went with a more powerful one from an electronics hobby store, and it didn't sound as good as the tape adapter.

It's not the best quality, but it's decent and it'll do until I upgrade my deck later this year and go with the aux input.
