I prefer the KYB-GR2 with Eibachs. I ran them for a majority of the life of my 2k. I did have D2 coilovers on and they were very good for performance handling, but they sucked for everyda driving and the noises.

Try giving Performancepeddler.com a shot. In the "login" you need to type in "maxima" for additional savings. They carry both Eibach springs and Illumina's for the max, they're cheaper than ebay.

Ugh I really should read .org threads before repairing the car. Just spent $992 on stock struts+dealer labor.

i have an 03 se, and i think my my struts are toast, she gets really hairy around corners at moderate speeds. I have very limited funds, and don't want to replace stock springs right now, just struts. Should i go for fresh stock struts or get some tokico HP or illuminas?

ok im looking into a suspension setup and im very confused.. if i go with a shock & spring combo i am definetly gonna go with the illuminas, but im confused about the spring choice. ive read pages and pages on here about springs and check out housecors comparison pics and ride height m stuff on his page but i cant decide.. the more i read the more im confused one post says H&R's are good n the next says that they sit low in the back, after seeing my car sag in the back for a year im sick of it and was it a little higher in the back, also would like a 1.5 - 2" drop in the front. I just can choose on which would work best for me, also im gonna be puttin on some 19" rims once the weather gets a little nicer, i dont want the tires to rum... ok next i was thinking about goin with some k sport coilovers, with coilover, correct me if im wrong. I could adjust the ride height n suspension travel so its set the way i want it? thats sounds great but then i hear they ride like crap and make alot of noise.. ahh its quite a decision to make.. anyone with some insight please help me out, lol thanks everyone

hey rocketsled go with the illuminas i just pu them on my car witht the stock springs because i cant decide on what lowering springs i want to go with. anyways what a difference they ride awesome great handling all set at 3 , but you still maintain real close to the factory ride. now only if i could drop the car a little and still get that ride quality.

I know this is an old *** thread but Ive always wondered what the KYB AGX's wouldve been like. Even though I read complaints of them being too rough I still wonder but even owning a 4tn gen I must say the illuminas are off the chain. I even have the tokico lowering springs that came with the kit and I must say. What a great performing ride. I have mine set at 5 in front 4 in the rear.

That makes two of us. I was already to buy my shocks/struts and springs but there are so many wavering opinions on which people prefer. Living in Philly I need something that can take the rough streets here.

Personal experence. Don't buy the HP. The backs are too soft. The fronts are fine though, but still not as stiff as OEM. All the miss information about HP being 10% stiffer then stock is false. I went back to OEM in the rear and my car is back to normal. Go to www.factorynissanparts.com and buy OEM. Prices are fair...Tokico makes the OEM stocks for nissan, but they are not the same as the ones that come on the car....Not even close.

hmm.. do you think you could have gotten a bad set? i didnt see anybody else mention a soft rear with the HPs.. i went on that website, but they don't seem to have any rear struts for the maxima.. for rear strut it just has one option, and it says "strut, altima - control arm 02-06" do maximas and altimas use the same struts in the back, and whats the deal with the control arm??

OK, don't flame me but I replaced mine recently with Monroes. I was hoping for a much softer ride but turns out it is only marginally softer than stock. With all of the rebates it came out to about $600 installed with tax and new alignment. There was some reduction of handling in turns but not significant.

Nope mine are just fine. Another member on the board also noticed the soft rears. If you google you will also find lots of complaints about the softness of HP. And that site carries the rears for all years of maximas. For 00-03 the rears cost 53.00 ea.http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...03&catalogid=1

one more question boondoxmax.. were you running stock springs or aftermarket when the HPs made the back feel soft?

No one running H&R with Tokico Blues?

Ok, I'm not a big poster, mostly a reader. I just read through all four pages and don't think I saw anyone running Tokico Blues with H&R springs. Why not?

The Blues with H&R is the setup I'm landing on (don't want to pay for the Illuminas) because I want to keep a close to stock ride with slight increase in handling (don't want the fiance *****ing about bumps, still want to take offramps fast when alone). I was considering GR2s with H&R springs, but I was told by TireRack / local auto parts store that KYB GR2's cannot run with H&R springs because the GR2s can't handle the lowering. Anyone else hear that?

I know this thread is slow moving, so I'm really hoping someone sees this.

stock suspension right now.. I'm amazed at how poorly a stock 2k2 handles, especially during Tiff Needle style driving.

I wouls save up the extra and get the illuminas... The fact that you can adjust the settings makes all the difference on where you are driving. Long trips = squishy setting... Short quick trip = stiffer response and less float. I wouldn't force myself into a possible underdampened setting if I were you for only 65-100 bucks.

Even if my Max is just a daily driver? I understand the benefit, but don't know if it's worth the $100-$150 (eBay price differences) in additional. I would rather just drive without tweaking based on the trip type. Do you think that the Blues / H&R combination is bad? Or just not as good as the Illuminas / H&R combination? Thanks for the help.

I just had Tokico Blues installed at a STS Tire and Auto in Jersey. Everything was fine for a week, then I started getting a clicking noise over bumps and when accel/decel (when nose would dip). Had them look again, said it was nothing. I got under the driver's front and noticed white grease on the springs, splattered on the wheel well, and dripping onto the strut - it looks like lithium grease. I spoke to a tech at Tokico who said lithium grease was the wrong type to use in the strut mount and that wheel bearing grease should have been used instead b/c it's heavier duty and won't melt as fast causing it to leak.

I'm going back to the mechanic tomorrow and am going to try and get the upper strut mount replaced for free (pay cost for parts, free labor) citing the wrong grease as my main concern. Anyone have any advice/thoughts for what they might argue back and how I can get them to commit to reduced costs? I already spent $500 in labor getting the damn things installed (labor + $75 alignment). Thanks for the help/thoughts.

I am in need of struts. I have TEIN S-Tech springs and for now factory struts (I know bad choice). My subdivision has many speed bumps. I am leaning towards Tokico Illuminas, but want other opinions first.

How hard is it to put new struts on? With the economy and such, I'm limited for $$$$ and I have ~95k on my max 03 with original springs and struts.

I bought a 2K maxima a month ago tomorrow. Well after driving my 02 sentra ser I thought the max handled like poop. Well I went to the dealership to get a few parts and I had a rattleing noise comeing from thje front end. The guy from the dealership and I went for a ride(he drove) Cometo find out the noise was from the hood. The bumps were all the way down and the hood was moving. (easy fix) But he did comment that my struts are shot. HE asked if I had noticed that the back of the car gets scary over bumps. I told him yes but I just got the car and thought that was just how it drove(he has a 2001 max) He told me NO that my struts are gone and I really should look at getting them replaced.

I am on temporary unemployment at the moment so funds are limited. Are the Tokico Illuminas the best bet?
