Key Programming

I ordered an AE blank from courtesy the other day and now I am needing to get it cut and programmed... I called a couple delears in my area and told them that I had the blank and just needed the cut and program... According to one it would be $100 and when I remarked at how high of a price that was he said it was a very involved process that takes about 45 mins and the mechanic has to do a lot of programming with the computer... this really sounds like to me..

Are there any options besides the Stealership to get this done? (A question probably asked a hundred times on here)- And what should I expect to pay.. .hopefully not 100 bucks...

I think the dealership is the only way to go, but my buddy had his key programmed for $25. he's got a '01 SE.

Sorry, S.O.L. on that one [stealership], but it isn't an "involved" process. all they do is hook up a hand scanner to underneath the steering wheel and it scans your computer code for the key. The tech then inserts the key which programs it, starts the car, and that's it. I got mine done at Courtesy for free when I bought the key: i guess they must have been in a good mood.

Your other option is to go to the dealership, find out who has the Consult tool, and offer them $20 on the side to program the key.

At least ur situation wasnt as bad as mine. I lost my kkey, had to get my car towed to the dealership ($100). They couldnt find my key code from my vin so they had to get a lock smith ($75) to make a brand new key. The total charge came out to $166 for one key and $100 for tow. Thank goodness my insurance will reimburse the tow.
