Screwed stereo screws...

My friend and I just swapped my non Bose factory deck for an Alpine deck and the 4 screws on each bracket were an absoulute pain in the **** to get out. You'd think that it would be the easiest thing but surprise it's wasn't. First the screws are so soft the stripped right off the bat. We then opted to drill them out and use an easy out to get the bastards out. Well 3 drill bits a drill and 2hrs later we finally got the brackets free from the factory deck. The other hour or so was spent running the cable to the trunk from the engine compartment and installing the deck, amp and sub.

Just wondering if anyone out there has found box for 2-12"s that fits close to the seat backs in the trunk. My hatchback box is just way too BIG and bulky. So I either need to get a custom box made for my 2 JL Audio 12wo's or get a nice pre-made that fits nice. For now it's a lone JL 8" in a bandpass box. Far better than stock but still not enough.

Yeah we tried that one before we busted out the drill. We even used liquid wrench and still nothing.

The EXACT same thing happened with my head unit install. I did everything I could think of, liquid wrench, hitting it with a hammer, everything, I could not get them out, so I finally had to drill them out.

It sucked hardcore.

yeah when i did my install a few weeks ago i got all but 3 out with a screwdriver and the rest we drilled through with a big as bit. we lost 2 smaller bits during the process. unbelieveable how much a pain it is to install car audio in this car. and for a box...http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=14945

that should fit in the back of the trunk fine.

The key is to START OUT with a high torque drill, like a DC cordless with a low and high speed. Using low speed, get a good #2 phillips bit and PRESS HARD. Then just hang on tight and pull the trigger, they will come loose just fine.

If you don't press hard you'll snap the bit off in the screw then it's REALLY fun

However, once you stripped it the first time trying to do it by hand you are very close to SOL... Japanese screws are soft, I work on Hitachi printers for a living and they use the crappiest screws I've ever seen!

The man is right. Before I did my install a few months ago I read on the forum how many people were having problems. When I got the stock HU and bracket assembly out I proped it up sideways on an old phone book got my cordless Milwaulkee 14.4v drill out put down some good presure and squeezed. No problems what so ever, eveything came out buttery smooth!
