O2 Sensor Help!!!

Hello,

I pulled a code on my car (2000 Maxima SE) and it is telling me the 02 (Bank 1 Sensor 2) sensor is causing my SES light. Two questions:

1. Can someone tell me which O2 sensor that is (ie: location of Bank 1 Sensor 2)?

2. Where is a good place to buy them? I was on a few sites and I was seeing $100-$160!!! Is that the going rate? I thought that was high. Wasn't sure if you could buy a more universal O2 sensor and do some wire splicing or something of that nature (that's what every Audi owner in the world does to avoid paying the markup to get the correct connector on their sensors). If anyone knows of a good place to buy please let me know.

Thank you in advance for any help!!!
Mike

Was your ECU ever reflashed per TSB NTB02-051a?

Thanks DanL,

Never had the ecu refresh, however I am pretty confident that my O2 sensor is bad. I say this because when I hook up my PDA OBD-II scan tool, it shows a constant voltage (0.26 volts) on that sensor. The other (presumably working) O2 sensor's voltage fluctuates between 0.05V and 0.9V - which I believe to be normal. I watched the "bad" one and it stayed locked at 0.26V for several minutes, woudn't budge. I certainly do not claim to be a expert on this so if anyone reading has any feedback I would love to hear.

Sounds like the bank 1 sensor 2 is on the cat, can anyone second that? Good place to buy them?

Some of the O2 sensors do stay at a constant voltage and the others have a sine wave fluctuation like you mentioned. Unfortunately I don't have a laptop right now to hook up my OBD scan tool so I can't check which did what. I can check later though if you wish. Going skiing with my father and brother-in-law in a bit and since my father has the laptop, I can ask him to bring it with him. BTW, what was the code?

DanL,

I would appreciate that if you could hook yours up and let me know what type of readings you show on your O2's.

I was getting the P0139 - O2 Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 2).

I wish the search was working so I could research this better without bugging people. Oh well, rather have the site up than the search working on a slow unresponsive site...

Thanks for all your help!
Mike

Does anyone know what the part number would be for the sensor behind the cat (bank 1, sensor 2)? Lots of O2's out there and I want to make sure to get the right one. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Want to thank all on the board, you guys are an awesome resource!

Ok I've got bank 1 sensor 1 out. Is that in the y pipe, where the pipe shoots straight up?

Well, my USB to RS-232 converter seems to be bad so I can't pull any codes using my father's laptop (has no serial ports on it). But I did read that the upstream sensors will switch between the high and low voltage readings while the downstream sensors generally stay around the mid-range voltage for long periods of time. Since sensor 2 is a downstream sensor it may not be bad after all.

I just read the tsb for o2 replacement for 2000-2003 maximas. This tsb calls for both rear 02 sensors to be replaced. If I only have one out do both really need to be replaced or is that just a stealership $$ tactic? Thanks!
