INSTALLED Umnitza DDE's thread..
thats total BS...if someeone is a reccomended installer in my book they should know what they are doing and should be familiar with the product.
any regular joe can put some headlights in the oven and silicone the rings on
just an observation...these rings are breaking way too easily

WHOA!!!!! How is this fodder for a message board?????
I recommended John, if John isn't pulling his end of the bargain up, there is nothing that can be done about it.
It's like you calling Nissan USA and complaining that the dealer that they set up in your area isn't giving you service. Nissan can go slap them on the wrist, give them fewer cars, but it's not going to change that fact that you have other dealership choices.
That being said, we're a small enough company to CARE about this stuff, but having statements like this on a message board makes little to no sense, this should be handled privately.
I've sent Igor his replacement ring, my installer or the car or the weather played a part in their breaking.
As an observation of "these things are breaking way to easily" - eye of the beholder!!!
I've personally installed close to 100 of these things on cars, I've had 3 rings break on me. All within the first 3 installs and all on DIFFERENT headlights that I was LEARNING and TESTING.
I've never ever had a single ring break on a Maxima.
Ask LithuiMax how his rings work, ask him how much work we went through on his lights for the prototyping? Ask him how many times his lights went into the oven and back out again.
ASK HIM HOW MANY RINGS BROKE IN THE PROCESS.
If Igor has an issue with the handling of an install, he MUST contact me via email - he knows my email, he knows my phone, I'm not exactly UNREACHABLE.
PAPA SMURF - and THIS IS DIRECTED AT YOU.
YOUR FALSE ASSERTION THAT THIS PRODUCT IS NOT UP TO YOUR STANDARDS IS RIDICULOUS AND INFLAMMATORY.
Yes, I'm shouting. I get very upset when people who have NO direct relation to the product, have never seen it, have never spent many many many hours installing it, make baseless assertions on behalf of someone else. If IgorS has an issue, you are not his "mouthpiece" - he can log into his EMAIL and send me a "PROBLEM EMAIL" which as many here will attest gets taken care of post haste.
You don't do the members of .ORG a favor when you go on here and make assertions like this.
I don't know you, for all I know you are a customer or were or whatever, but it does not matter. Learn to understand the difference between a simple private matter that gets taken care of immediately and a public outcry of rage.
Had I left IgorS out in the dark and not handled this for months and not replied to him, he'd have a problem. But that is not the case.
To OTHERS:
PAPA Smurf's assertions are inane and baseless. Make up your own decision not only about the way we handle these situations, but also by the way our customers enjoy our product and they way they describe the fun aspects of ownership:
a) stares wherever you go
b) jealous BMW owners
c) left lane ownership
d) distinctive visual definition
e) uniqueness

I wasn't going to post this but you know what, let's go for it.
1) from what I gather-NO ONE on here has had a FLAWLESS install
2) every NYer is having problems with cold weather-why didn't you do PROPER testing in ALL CLIMATE conditions
3) every person I've talked to has complained of your SHODDY packaging-SHODDY wiring kits, so am I alone?

4) I wouldnt install your kit if you PAID ME....why? because a) I live in NY and am not risking my lights for stupid rings that don't work 100% b)its a waste of $$$ for a defective and INHERENT design flaw
5) John told Igor how ****TY your kit was made and how upset he was at the lack of quality that the kit shows
I am posting this to let orgers know whats up. If you have a problem with what I am saying-FIX IT....do some more testing and release somethin that is worth the price.
What I will say is, when your kits DO WORK-they work very nicely, but apparently they don't work too often-especially in the NorthEast
I still can't get over your disrepectful tone so I'm going to take this point by point:

"Whatever your name is" is disrespectful, if you want help, learn someone's name and use it without brash phrasing like that. How is him being banned a reason for him not to get a hold of me over email? Is this an excuse?
Approximately 4 weeks ago Igor had his DDE kit installed by your RECOMMENDED installer, John V, located in Maryland.
factual, good, stick to that
A few days later Igor noticed that when auto-starting his car-one of the rings didn't light up. Upon closer inspection the ring was CRACKED inside his housing-already siliconed in and all mounted up.
Actually, it was the next day based on his emails to me <-- note the key there, HIS EMAILS TO ME
So Igor contacted you and you sent him a replacement ring which was also cracked so you resent another.
It broke in shipment. I delegate my shipping to someone else, they messed up the packaging, I reshipped personally. IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS BAD SERVICE??? I paid for overnight shipping to get it to him because of his install. THIS IS BAD SERVICE???
Now apparently 1 month later Igor is still left with a partial working DDE kit and John V., your RECOMMENDED installer wants NOTHING to do with Igor his kit or your business on the east coast.
Being unaware of this, puts me at NO FAULT. John is a VALUED installer for MANY MANY MANY installs. If John hasn't contacted me directly, you are make idiotic assertions that John doesn't want to work with us (our business). WRONG.
John V states that he is tooo busy to be bothered because of "another job" and DOES NOT want to install Umnitza DDE ANY MORE and has already turned down 3 of your DDE customers!!!!!
HE HAS TURNED DOWN MAXIMA Customers probably, it's his RIGHT to do so, if those customers don't get anything from him, they can go elsewhere or CONTACT US FOR MORE DETAILS ABOUT SOMEONE IN THAT AREA. Again, how is this OUR problem when no one contacts us????
This is VERY FRUSTRATING to Igor due to the fact that it was John's error that the ring cracked due to a "kink" in the wiring and now not only is Igor out the $150 for the DDE-$150 for the install and his time wasted but his car looks horrible.
Good, I'm glad your a mouthpiece for Igor, do you want to tell us how his temperature is today? Or if he went to the bathroom? Seems like you know how he's feeling so well. You sure he "asked you to post"? This is immature. Adults handle things the ADULT way, not by crying in a crowded shopping center in the middle of the floor because the toy that they want is out of stock <-- my kids do that!!!!
I shall post pix later and hopefully this can be resolved in an amicable fashion.
Despite these brash comments, I have nothing but respect for Igor and will contact him directly (actually already did). Posting pictures? Whatever for? It's not like it matters, I have nothing to hide, but really, it doesn't help one way or the other.
Please contact Igor at Igor911 on AIM or Igor911@comcast.net
thank you for your anticipated cooperation
when in all the times I've participated on .ORG has anyone got the sense that me, my company, and the people that help put this together that are DIRECTLY associated with us, don't help. John is a freelancer. There is nothing beyond "Hey, John, what's going on here buddy, why aren't you helping" that I can do.

umnitza, my points were made-I have nothing more to say....contact Igor-this is out of my hands-I purely represented him.
Like I said-i've seen the kit in person on multiple occasions. My point still stands that the kit is garbage and I have no doubts that within 6 months to a year most cold climate ppl will be having problems

i do agree that they do not work well in colder temps...I havent seen all 4 of my rings lit @ the same time aside of 3 occasions...these were installed weeks ago...... have no choice but to wait until warmer weather to see what the deal is..
I'm not a "dude" to you, be respectful and you'll be getting back in spades.
"ORGERS" need to know this product works, is easily installed (we've sold MANY products and save for a few, all have been installed successfullly). Many have installed them and simply don't post. They don't need to.
O, wait, I get it, you know that too. You know that all.

1) from what I gather-NO ONE on here has had a FLAWLESS install
You know this because YOU talked to everyone? You are the manufacturer of this product? You deal with all the people that I deal with? REally? Because if you know so much, which you clearly do, then maybe I should hire you to handle all the orders
2) every NYer is having problems with cold weather-why didn't you do PROPER testing in ALL CLIMATE conditions
Right, I forget, you know this because you DO work for me. We tested this in: Maryland, South Carolina, North Carolina, New York, Minnesota, and even Chicago. YES, when it's cold, they take some time to warm up. So does the human body. We are moving to address SOME of it, but not all. In return for a VERY distinctive product, we are aware that there are some issues. WE NEVER CLAIMED THERE WERE NOT. READ POST 1!
3) every person I've talked to has complained of your SHODDY packaging-SHODDY wiring kits, so am I alone?
You must still be working here, because you are clearly aware of all the people I deal with. What was I thinking, you know everyone
4) I wouldnt install your kit if you PAID ME....why? because a) I live in NY and am not risking my lights for stupid rings that don't work 100% b)its a waste of $$$ for a defective and INHERENT design flaw
Excellent assertion by you, no engineering background on our product, have never seen the product, have made 'STUPID' comments that have no relevance. There is NO DEFECT. The only defect is your opinion <-- OPINION.
5) John told Igor how ****TY your kit was made and how upset he was at the lack of quality that the kit shows
Tell that to the thousands that have installed it and call me daily to thank me for it.
I am posting this to let orgers know whats up. If you have a problem with what I am saying-FIX IT....do some more testing and release somethin that is worth the price.
Again, 'worth the price' <-- I forget you know our costs on this too. What was I thinking. If it's not worth it to you, that's fine. But to lay claim like this is just wrong and inciteful!!! Wait, no I forget, you know everything.
What I will say is, when your kits DO WORK-they work very nicely, but apparently they don't work too often-especially in the NorthEast.
[b]Let's make a little analogy. When there is snow on the ground, do you drive with Winter tires or Summer tires? When there is snow on the ground, does your car have cold start up issues? When it's cold outside, really really cold, does your key sometimes not work in the keyhole to open the car? Do you drive a convertible in the winter time? Every product has some minor issues in some weather conditions. Our products work as intended. We are moving to address some of the cold start up issues, but they still DO WORK IN THE COLD.
I wasn't going to post this but you know what, let's go for it.

You know everything. You make baseless assertions and assume. Ridiculous.
Our test cars - from 1 year ago, report NO issues. I've got to be the worst abuser of my own technology, I start them stop them, run them for 12 hours per day (yes, I make long journeys up and down the cost).
I run them to drain my battery to test out how long it takes.
I run them in cold, in wet, in dry, in hot.
I run them on tracks, on pot holed roads, at insane speeds, at insane cornering loads.
Heck, I even accidentally do full 360s on the freeway 80Mph due to loose gravel and yet, mine keep right on working.
SO do my wife's for over 6 months now with NO issues.
If you have a product defect (s happens) - you have my email address: info@umnitza.com USE IT.

as far as irrelevant observations. they are just that, OBSERVATIONS
i personally like your product, it wasnt an analysis, it was an observation
ok, backing up a bit.
Jeepik - minor apologies to you - I do believe your observation was off <-- is that better
But you do know my frustration isn't with you. But your observation is indeed "out of whack" <-- is that better?
j/k.
Just relax everyone, this should be taken care of privately. I have always said cold start up issues. That's it, start up. Not cold WORKING issues.
Once they are on, they stay on until your car falls apart. So, if you have a warmer garage, or turn on your headlight, they will fire off.

hey matt, i don't have these installed nor do i have 2k2/3 hids but would love the setup, just wanted to say they look beautiful and hope to get the setup on my car
thx for contributing to the maxima community and good luck with your business
OMG!! What in the friggen he11 is going on here??
When my shipment of the new DDE's arrived, there was nothing wrong with the packaging. I was quite impressed by the packaging and nothing was broken.
Lets get real for about 30 seconds.
Modding a car is not an exact science. There is some element of risk involved. In fact, everytime I drop my Max off at the stealership for service, I take the risk of them screwing up something. WE ALL DO!!
The Maxima headlights were not engineered to accept this DDE mod. By buying the AFTERMARKET kit, you are taking some risk. The reward we want is a unique looking car that people are envious of. We all hope that when we take risks of this kind, that we come out okay but not everyone does. Some mods just don't work out and some mods require more work and repeated attempts at installation. If you didn't already understand this concept of risk and reward, then I feel sorry for you. Your High School Economics teacher didn't do his or her job.
So to all the ORG'ers that are reading this and thinking about buying the DDE kit, UMNITZA is true to his word. You have nothing to fear from him. He delivers on his product and he takes responsibility for the mistakes of others like any respectable business owner/manager would do. If you have a problem with something you've purchased from him then by all means contact him. Don't try to DEFAME his name and reputation on this site. He's got a great product and if you don't want it then let your money speak for you and don't buy it.

Umnitza I understand you piloted a program-fine and I'll give you props for being the FIRST TO PRODUCE DDE ON A MAXIMA, but thats all you get from me.
If you weren't in SUCH A RUSH to release a viable product, you wouldn't have these issues.
I still say bottomline-more testing is/was needed to make this product TRULY VIABLE
like I said, these won't be on my car anytime soon-I can't deal with a product that works 35-50% of the time.

PAPA SMURFETTE:
-Matt and I did quite a bit of testing when working with the prototype rings. None broke.
-Unless you have grubby man hands with no thumbs, you should be able to handle these with care. Think taking eggs out of a carton.
-If the installer that Matt recommended is not cooperating, it is not Matt's fault. Matt can't speak for the installer nearly as much as you have been babbling on, on Igor's behalf.
-If the rings come broken, it is most likely not Matt's fault. I don't see how the packaging is "shoddy." There are separate compartments with a foam surround.
-If they are packaged incorrectly by one of Matt's associates, then the problem will be taken care of. There have not been enough shipments to catch the problem fast enough.
-Matt's customer service, attitude and overall consideration for his customers is extremely ammicable. Your severe disrespect, malignant attitude and lack of actual knowledge is quite distasteful.
-Contacting Matt in private would have been a much better option, IMHO. What does coming to this board, whining like a little biitch, do? Nothing, except make Igor and yourself look bad.
-Matt covered his bases when he put the warning up on his website about the cold weather start up problems and fragile nature of these particular rings. Hell, he even said that LONG ago when he first thought about making these, or had these in the works. Your point of "uh, these don't work very well in cold weather" is redundant.
Thanks.

Thanks.

I was born and raised in Moscow, Russia, so I know what REAL weather is like. Thanks for playing, though..
Your point is still redundant - the cold weather start up problems were known, and people were warned. You aren't saying something that was kept a secret, or something that was swept under a rug.

Here, this should silence the whining:
Matt:
Thanks for the response but I really don't want John to fix it anymore. You know I'd post that but I can't till Monday, I don't have access until then but I do allow you to post for me and quote it as if I said it. I think Don in NJ is going to charge me $50 to do it so I guess I have no choice.
Have fun with the suspension, I just took mine off last weekend

I'm going to install my suspension today. So I'll respond tonight.
I think in the meantime, tell Papa Smurfboy to ease up, he's doing no one a great service.
You KNOW I'LL TAKE CARE OF YOU. YOU KNOW THIS!!! I've NEVER let you down.
Please post something on that thread that says:
"We're resolving this, not moments after the most, Matt made a proactive attempt to resolve this but I never really thought it was Matt's issue, so I never contacted him. While I appreciate what Papa posted, I don't think he should have, but I do appreciate him trying to stand up for me. Albeit, it was unnecessary"
Please.

Hey Matt-
Just as he said, as you know I had these installed 1 month ago. The day after install 1 ring broke because the wires must of over tightened when he closed the cap. Since then I have been asking him EVERY WEEK if he can take 1 hr of his time to fix my headlight. I mean I paid this guy $150!!! Every week he responds with something new saying he is going skiing or he got a new job or he cant do work on weekends because he works or he just opened some shop or he doesn't have any free time.
I understand life is life but I paid the man $150 for something that he installed that should work 100%! He has had 4 weeks now to fix my damn ring and still I drive with 1 ring out and it looks like ****. It got to me so much that I unplugged the DDE relay from the battery because I couldn't stand the 1 ring not lighting up.
Now - I have to drive to NJ, to pay XXXXXXX an audio/car installer to fix my ring. That's going to cost me at least $50-75 to get it done. That's more money out of my pocket for something that I should not be responsible for.
I'm really ****ed and I didn't notify you because I didn't think you had anything to do with this...
As for papa - I been talking to him since I got this kit and I guess he got annoyed at all the problems and vented...that I don't know anything about.

Folks - you are describing exactly the issue to a "T".
We think we have a potential resolution and easily retroactively introduced. But our supplier must get back to us for engineering info of plausibility.
BTW - I just got flagged down by 2 different Max drivers on the way home with my kids, both gave us the thumbs up!

Doing something constructive with your time means that you don't throw lobs out that look like Molotov cocktails.
Next time, please be wise. I assume, probably correctly, that Igor is happy given his responses. Which was never really in doubt until you attempted to sour an already reasonable and good relationship.
BTW - as an add on: I won't post this but John has emailed me his comments and I'm only going to Paraphrase because he didn't give me explicit permission to post his responses:
Paraphrase ON:
I was unable to get the Maxima completed because I really didn't like working with it given the time I was taking (3 hours). I have 2 kids (one infant <-- those of you that are parents understand), have started a new job (those of you that started new jobs know what that's like), and have been very busy overall getting caught up on the bills, etc.
I really DO apologize to Igor, I received a call from him every day last week and while that was excessive, I didn't want ruin the relationship of Umnitza and the product, so I'll call Igor and see if there's a time he might want to meet up.
I can't devote the kind of time required for this install, I really wish I'd told you this earlier, sorry about that. For E46s that take me 45 minutes, no problem, but this is just too labor intensive. Please find ***** (I've not proofed these guys) to take my place, they're located within 30 minutes of me.
Good luck, sorry.
PARAPHRASE OFF.
So Igor, I assume you'll likely go to your "new guy" but John's willing to fix it for you.
I know you can't post, but you can email me.

I am not happy because I am out $50 in addition to the other $150
When you say "John is willing to fix it"...when is he going to fix it, next year or on his lunch break? C'mon, the guy gave me soo many excuses that I have nothing else to think of this situation as if he doesn't want to fix his mistake.
Also - You need to change ur install instructions to say to drill holes for wires because even the cap twisting shut not only tugs on the wires but also cuts them... and yes, this is comming from experience.
So...WHAT WAS your resolution for me? You seem to have ignored my last 2 emails referencing it.
We've had email problems left and right, I've never willfully ignored ANYONE's EMAILS.
Sheesh, you guys are so silly sometimes, you think everyone's out to get you.
We've had email server issues, if I don't receive your email or you don't get a reply, it's not like you can't reach me.
As for "John's willing to fix it" - I know he said he's make it right.
No, I do not have to change the instructions. Of the multitude of units we've sold, not one person has mentioned this, because the instructions are clear to not pull on the wires.
If John was not following directions, I can't fly out there and force him to do so, he realizes he made a mistake, he's unwilling to make things better to MY satisfaction...and there is NOTHING I can do about it <-- I'm not his papa.
In the last email to me, you are complacent about the additional $50. One of the things you could have done is asked the person that was doing the labor to trade you his labor charge in return for added advertising of his services and potentially allow him to become part of the Umnitza certified installer list.
Let's solve this via email:

Hey guys. I got mine installed and had problems getting it going just right. One of the rings would not light up. Well with both of them plugged up the big ring would not light up fully. It would stay purple. Well I got some weird idea of unplugging the one that worked. Well that worked. The big ring lit up perfectly, and then i plugged the other ring back up to the black box ballast and presto both work now all the time. Weird.
oh another thing. One day Cullen (guy from the 4th gen) was looking at the lights and picked up the black box ballast and the DDE's turned off. I was really curious. So i took it home and played with it forever. Nothing. So i took the ballast off and took it inside, took it apart and this was a pain, and what do i find. The thing is almost fried and there is tons of water in it. So i dry the box out and clean all the ash (yep i said ash) off the board. I looked inthe black box and it burnt a hole almost through the black box. I guess it got shortted out. But it's workin fine now. I put marine adhesive sealant around the edges to keep water out.

I have no clue how water got in it. But when i took it home to check it out. i turned on the lights and one side would work and then the other side wouldnt. I noticed this faint but familiar sound of electric stuff burning (my dad is an electrical engineer and i have heard plenty of things fry
) So i immediatly turned the lights off and proceded to check it out. Everything is still working; didnt do any damage thank goodness. But upon open the ballast i noticed it was not completely sealed all the way around. May want to check on that.
Also I dont have a single problem with the cold. I had these things lit up in 0 degree weather. They only took about 15 secs to warm up to the bright white too. They look great and very unique.

Yeah i know. But I have my digital camera at school taking pictures of my patient's cases, and i dont really feel like taking all that apart and breaking the seal i created just to show ya a burn hole in a plastic piece.
