Timing Chain TSB

Has anyone had this done? I'm getting close to the 3/36 and can't decide whether or not to let the tech monkeys open my engine. The car used to only do it occasionaly, but do to colder weather it has been occuring twice a day.

IF YOU CONFIRM: The engine in an applied vehicle makes a rattle noise for about 1 second when started cold, DETERMINE IF: The noise is coming from the left or right side VTC (Valve Timing Control) sprocket. ACTION: Replace the VTC sprocket that is making noise. See this bulletin for further detail.

I've posted this question before, but didn't get any responses. I don't think many 2k2 guys have gotten this done. I'm considering taking mine in for this TSB also.

i think the general feeling is that this very short rattle at cold startup will not cause any undue wear or harm to your engine. I have a 2k2 and it does it when its cold for a sec or less. although my nissan dealership is very good i still will not let them take the motor apart to fix the rattle unless it gets much worse.

No damage?

I also have this sometimes in the morning when it's cold (although my 2003 car is garaged with only 13k miles). It occurs for 1-2 seconds and then is gone. I don't like grinding type noises in my engine and am wondering whether this will worsen with time. The fix is too drastic for my liking (I'd rather live with it than risk the service monkeys screwing up something else). If it doesn't result in cumulative damage, i'm surprised NISSAN would fix it under the TSB.

I would not let them take apart my engine just for this TSB. The question I would ask is; do you have confidence in them to do this job? Or better yet, do you feel lucky...
