Calling all who have opened their 2k2-2k3 headlights...

How many have experienced issues with condensation/moisture since opening their light? Those who haven't, any special recommendations to assure a solid seal? Or could this be caused by moist air trapped in the headlight?

So I assume you heated them back up in the oven to soften the seal and them jammed 'em back together? Did you put them back in for 20 minutes @ 250?

all i did was just put the black part of the housing back in the oven for 8 min at 250 degress and push them back together. let them sit overnight so the sealant can harden and thats it. personally i dont think there is a need to keep them in the oven for more than 10 min. its not going to make the sealant any more workable.

I just got some waterproof sealant over the existing seal just to make sure no water will get in

After I put mine back together (heated them in oven of 200 degrees for 15 mins) i left them in the house for half a day to cool back down slowly instead of being thrown out into cooler weather.

the reason there is condensation is because you are prolly sealing it, using your hands, and then pushing as hard as possible. this still leaves enough separation on the top part to have yout hink you're okay, but you're not. i had condensation, i let it dry overnite, then i used plies grips or regular pliers, and just pressed on the edges until it sealed. no one bit of condensation since. 10 to 1 says that's what you're not doing.

i did it with a heat gun. heated the glue back up. put it together. When it cooled down, I used a 3/16" bead of silicone around all the headlight. Bone Dry......

I heated mine up-pushed shut and then vice clamped for a few seconds then added a tiny bead of hot glue around edges-i had fog up once-40min after i washed and dried car

I then had car out in rain all day yesterday-drove in it on highway at 80+mph and parked car in garage-no condensation and then this morning pull car out-car was dry and lights were fine

After putting them in the oven again, i used a belt and wrapped it in a towel, then i sinched them...used one foot on them while i pulled them. Then left them for about 30 mins, then slapped them on the car and left. That was about 3 weeks ago or so....as of a week ago i've been getting condensation. Only on the drivers side, bad...i'm going to reopen them saturday, air them out and then reseal them....this time i'll use some sealant. hopefully this'll help.

did you just use hand pressure or did you use vice grips. is there separation between both pieces of the housing (plastic and rest of housing)...if so, then you just did not tighten them enough. save yourself the trouble of sealant. nothing will top what nissan uses as it's sealant. remove the headlights fromt eh car, let them airdry inside your house (remove bulbs to let condensed air come out) and then use vice grips to close the separation. sealant is gonna look nasty. i didn't have to use sealant and i am/have been w/out condensation.

No i didn't use vice grips, don't have any. The strange part is my passenger side is fine, but the drivers side is not. I'm going to redo them saturday.

again, save yourself the trouble of opening them up. you WILL be wasting your time because they will prolly get condensation again, and you'll have sealant all over. get vice grips....do it...it LITERALLY takes 5 seconds. you use the pliers to seal the separation between the housings. you'll see them close up more than you've ever tried with your hands....

if you're saying that because you feel the need to soften the sealant, i guess you could do that. i used a hair dryer to open and seal my headlights. remember, you're not opening them all up. you're just softening up the sealant, so no need to heat it up for long. i had it for 2 minutes on a hair dryer and then used the vice grips to close the rest. it was rather simple. and only after i had done that did i realize that i needed to use vice grips cause there was no way i would have gotten it as sealed as it got.

You guys are meticulous. I didn't do any of those things you guys mentioned. I just threw it back into the oven for a few minutes, pushed the housing back together and all was well. I guess I got lucky... sorta cuz I kinda melted the area where the balast screws in on my left headlight.

I did mine a long time ago (one of the first ones).

After you put them back on the car, leave out the top little guide light. Leave it out for a week or so, this lets more air in/out of the lights to ballance out the condensation. Put them back in, never had another issue with water.
