car shaking, please help!

Mine is a Max 2002, has 21k on it. Everything was fine before yesterday. I was driving on freeway, suddenly it started shaking, or trembling. We can feel strongly it trembled. After 5 minutes I got off freeway and drove on local, everything was normal again. Today I drove on freeway for half an hour, it has no problem.

Does anyone have any clue what's wrong with it? I am worried that it will happen again. Thanks.

Sounds like a shot of water in the gas probably. That's my guess.

Hey I dunno if your problem was the same as mine, but I had that happen once and it was just the snow that had built up on the inside of the rims as i accellerated. Normally if the steering wheel shakes its the front tires, if your seat is shaking its your rear tires out of balance. Hope that helps

2000 GXE. I had same problem at 45,000 mi. Car & engine shook bad enough to pull over. I also had lack of power & pinging problem when trying to pass. Finally decided to replace all 6 coil packs & spark plugs (very easy to do). It's now 2 yrs later and neither problem has returned.

if he gave us a little more info than "my car was shaking" it might have helped, but this was also the first thing I thought. Snow/ice stuck in the wheel shifted and caused unbalance, then fell out.

but we don't know where he lives...
or if it snowed...
or if he recently did anything to the suspension...
or if it was the whole car...
... or just the driver's seat...
... or just the steering wheel...

more info might help us help you.

Thanks, guys, the comments help a lot.

Let me give more details:

It might be unbalanced weight: Me and my wife on front seats. My friend, a girl, about 110 pounds, on the left backseat. So the unbalanc can be the reason (but do you always drive with balanced weight?). Or some ice accumulated on the rim. Anyway, I hope it is not due to any engine problem. I live in Minnesota, recently we had a lot of snow. But my car had never had any problem except for this one.

I have not done anything to the suspension, just changed oil regularly. And the shaking is on not only wheel, but also the seats, the whole car. I'll take it in to a dealer for the recall of some sensor, so I'll ask them to give it a look (for free?).

Appreciate the help from you guys.

the position of the passengers shouldnt make a difference in the car. It was probably just ice in the rims (this has happened to me) or spurt of bad fuel. Just keep an eye out for about a week or two to make sure it doesnt do it again. If you get the sypmtoms again, pull over when u can and see if u have any type of ice or snow in ur rims.
