How do Piaa Xtreme headlight bulbs compare with Xenon headlights?

I'm trying to decide between the 2001 AE and a 2002. I want the brightness of the Xenon and have found some people recommending going with Piaa's Xtremes. Maybe even go with a HID conversion kit for the AE. I want to know if there is a huge dif. between the 2 to warranty the extra cost or if the Piaa's will get the job done. (The 2002 will have a higher insurance premium for the engine not for the HID's themselves).

HIDs isn't the only difference between the 00-01 and 02-03....you have a 3.5 motor also with a considerable amount more power

I know there are other differences. I'm mainly concerned with the Xenon v. Piaa comparison. Thank for the input though.

Why are you basing your decision on HIDs or not? If I were you, I would go for the '02/'03. You will be much happier with the extra power at your right foot.

He didn't say he was basing his whole decision only on HID vs. PIAA. But that's all this thread is concerned with.

Anyways, as far as looks the PIAA are close to HID. As far as actual light output and night time visibility, the HID own.

And do NOT get a HID conversion kit for the AE headlights. The housing is not designed for HID and you will **** off a lot of people at night driving with that. Now if you bought the AE car and replaced the whole headlight with a HID housing from a 2k2, then that would be cool. And you can get them for cheap on eBay if you don't mind stolen goods

Kojiro, thank you. All I'm concerned with in this post is the HID v. Piaa debate. My decision will be based on a multitude of factors. thanks for your concern NT2SHBBY.

I am sorry but you cannot compare PIAA's to HID's. There is no comparison. Just go drive one at night some time. The power of the motor is great, the HID's are great. Go with the 2K2 plus car. You won't be disappointed...but ignorance is bliss...

The camera doesn't capture the true color. In person, it looks way better.

HID's are the best for lighting. PIAAs are good look-alikes, but done give the actual light output near the HID's output. If you want the most functional, HID's cant be beat

Your comparing Apples to Watermelons. PIAAs are all looks and have almost no light output on the ground whatsoever compared to HIDs,

You could also get an HID kit or by the parts seperatly to fit in your 2k1 housing like it did. It's not that hard.
