2002 Maxima SE Brake Squeal!

My wife has a 2002 SE with 30K miles on it. The rear brakes are very noisy. They squeal alot when you are just barely on the brakes (like in a parking lot). I have removed the pads, cleaned all the brake dust out, and coated the back of the pads with some brake quiet stuff that didn't help. Any ideas???

What kind of pads are they? Stock? Aftermarket? Some aftermarket pads are real squeaky. Ive found stock pads to be real quiet. Maybe try replacing em??

The pads are stock. I am thinking about replacing them with some aftermarket pads, but I am giving the dealer a shot at it first. Car is still under warranty, and I don't want to hear any 'well, it's those aftermarket items on there that's the problem'

Thanks
Gregg

your rear brake are worm. I reason I say this is because at 30K most .org member brake are worn out, and it could be the wear indator.

Mine just started making the smae noise. In the owner's manual, it said that this is the indicator that the pads are worn. How funny, most cars have a light in the dash to tell you that.

I took it to the dealer, and they said that the pads and rotors are glazed over. They wanted to turn the rotors and scuff up the pads for $79. I passed. I've never heard of rotors glazing, but have heard of pads glazing. I figure I can scuff the pads (or install new ones) for less than that. If I install new ones, I'm going to stay with the Nissan ones because the car is under warranty.

The indicator is usually built into the brake pads. (Telltabs) There are no brake wear warning lights that I have ever seen on the dash display.

Actually, rotors do get glazed and the cause is excessive heat. When this happens, the rotor is usually also warped and needs to be resurfaced.

My brakes make a mild squeeking noise, more like grinding when I first get in my car. Then it goes away after I drive a bit. I know for sure that I need my rear brake rotors resurfaced.
