Hey all, last Friday coming home from work, acceleration would start out in 3rd gear (1st and 2nd gear out), and I had no Rev gear. I had to pull nose-first into garage, and for those Chicago peeps, you know it's not a good idea to BACK out into our alleys...
Anyway on Saturday I get up, try to put in rev, no dice. I put it in Neutral, and start pushing the Max out ***-first into the alley, in 20 degree weather, with about 4" of snow accumulated in alley...
What a pain in the a$$! The car ain't light, and it felt like I was pushing uphill, with the snow ruts in the alley providing no help.
Take into Woodfield Nissan, since I got treated good last time I went. The first and only time I had ever gone into them was the week before for
1)ATF flush
2)Radiator flush
3)4 wheel alignment
4)Transverse Link recall
5)Cam/Crank sensor recall
6)Fogged up headlight TSB
7)Diagnose problem on my 1-2 shift, where sometimes it SLAMS into 2nd, even if I was going at 30% throttle....
They took care of everything in one day, one of their porters dropped me off at work and everything, it was a real classy place I could tell..
Drop it off at 800 am, I was the third car inline. Dealt with Kevin in service, he would look into it and call. I just hung out at with my girl, since she lives in the area. Kevin calls back, car is staying, it can't be driven. Go back over, get my garage door opener, proof of ins, other misc crap, and get into their Sentra loaner car.
Note - Somebody on this forum mentioned their Neon loaner car had no ball$, the Sentra (has even less ball$ probably) almost got me into an accident. I thought I could make a quick right turn on red, and almost got rear-ended by an Intrepid who had the right of way...
Get a call Monday, solenoids in trans became defective, 1st and 2nd gear decided to play tug of war, neither decided to give and a plate of gear tooth salad later, trans is gonna have to be replaced. Kevin said nowadays trans rely more on electronic aids, as opposed to traditional fluid boost to decide when to shift into next higher gear.
Trans is in on Friday (four day delay on oem part availability sucks a$$!) 6 hours book time. I drop off their car yesterday evening, get my car back. Kevin suggest I take it easy for next couple weeks or 500 miles, no abrupt WOT launches, etc. I told him and the other service writer that I would never race my Max...(made sure to take track slips out of center console
)
The car feels very nice, the 1-2 hard shift is non-existant now, the drive at 70 mph is EXTREMELY quiet...Some punk-a$$ in a 200 hp Dodge Stratus was tail-gating me on the 90/94 last night, so I went 75% while he was going WOT, so nice to KNOW that the Max is back, and had I wanted to, I could have buried his dumb-a$$.
Notes 1) Sentra has AMAZING turning radius. I know our turning radius is terrible, but I was still sorta tickled at how nimble the Sentra was...2) Sentra sound system (it has rear speakers, which my car doesn't, only in the doors) is 5X btr than my car. I gotta ditch the paper door speakers and upgrade soon, that's bad when the lowest car on the totem pole has a better sound than the flagship...3) Nissan motors are good, across the board, the Sentra pulled decent after 50mph.
Just wanted to share my experience with you guys. I noticed Kloog also had his trans replaced, and thought I should write about my experience.
One week turnaround wasn't bad I thought.
