Mileage

I'm wondering how many miles a month you people are putting your car's. Because of work related issues I'm now being forced to drive around 2000 to 2300 miles a month. Which means that I should be putting about 24,000 miles a year at a minimum on my ride. How many of you would get a pos to get back and forth to work everyday and leave the Maxima at home or just keep driving the Maxima.

You should really get a POS instead of putting valuable milage on the MAX.

keep it, drive it, enjoy it. If you do regular maintenance your max will handle 24k / year just fine. There are plenty of maximas over 120k+ so you have at least 5 years (and in reality many more) ahead of you.

I put 14k on my car the first year I had it and then started working from home so I put 2,500 on it last year

and if you buy a beater you'll never recover the money. It sounds like a good idea up front, but you're going to spend $4k on a RELIABLE beater, then insure it, fix problems over the life of the car... it's going to end up costing you money in the long run.

i'd say get the POS. My dad has had the same POS for like 10 years and has 215,000 on it. Its a 4 banger subaru but he has only put like 10k on his tahoe in the last 4 years. plus the parts for the POS (depending on what you get) might be cheaper than the ones for you Max. Gas mileage will probably be better too

screw the POS man, if you are going to be doing some driving, do it in style and comfort, that is why you bought the max in the first place. every time a nice car passes you in your POS you will be wishing you had your max. i promise.

drive it and enjoy it...screw the mileage

two cars means $$$ to lay out for second car and 2 cars to insure and 2 cars to gas up

I agree, just hope you're not leasing the max. I purchased mine and plan to keep for a long time, 21K miles so far and no real complaints. How could I be makin' $500+ payments on my MAX and be driving some POS around, voluntarily! plus paying insurance on another car. Morale of the story : Enjoy what your paying for.

I've put on 15K in 8 months.

Forget the miles I've never had so much fun driving until I got my Max.

I'll never go back to a POS again even if I can't afford a new max. Then I would probably get an older gen.

Buy a beater for bad weather days, but I enjoy my 03 more than any of my previous Maximas. It loves to be driven and driven hard, I wasnt that bad on my previous Maximas. I think its the 3.5, I still havea beater 89 Maxima that I use for bad weather and when I go places that I dont want my 03 Max or 350 to go.

I also put about 20k miles a year on my max. All I can say is, every car gets old regardless of how many miles u put on it. Doesn't matter how many miles u got on it. Drive the max and enjoy it. Your car will get old regardless of how many miles you put on it.

It's always good to have a second option. I drive my 95 KingCab for daily commuting and put less than 1000 miles a month on the 02 Max. If you are driving that many miles, you need a reliable vehicle instead of a POS. A Sentra would be a good choice IMHO. My truck has 135k miles and the Max has just under 24k miles.

Why buy a car and keep it in the garage? You buy a car to drive it, not let it sit.

Drive and enjoy your car.

I'm in the same boat. I just bought my 02 max and I drive a lot for work. I have an 89 max and I was planning on getting rid of the 89. It has 210K on it and still pulls strong. I can't seem to get rid of it maybe because of the winter I don't know.

I just started driving 210 miles a day myself. The last 2 years I have been using my beater pick-up when I worked locally. I had the same feelings as do these guys re: save the car, don't put many miles on it. Since I've started driving it everyday It justs gets more fun to drive. It also has conditioned itself nicely since driving it more, probably due to the ever adjusting ECM. Also, think of it this way the more you drive it the more you have to replace wear & tear items (brakes). Mine are due soon. I'm not going with OEM either!!

Drive a POS every day while your Max collects dust? Yeah, and wear your crusty stained sweats and ball cap to work everyday so you don't accidently stain you stylin silk tie.

No thanks. Enjoy it!

I agree with that

having a POS car means, not enjoying it.. and paying more $ in insurance, more $ in repairs, more $ in other things.. much better off having fun and enjoying the ride in the maxima

with that said

i have 112k miles on mine and it's running like new.

my 97 had 145k and ran excellent

i've seen 4th gens with ridiculous milage and they run fine.. enjoy the car, don't be scared to drive it

I also put about 30K a year on for work.

I have a POS 92 D21 that I almost NEVER drive. If I'm gonna drive all these miles - it may as well be enjoyable. If I didn't need to haul my bikes around - I wouldn't even have the truck

Holy crap. Hell, I thought I was driving a lot of miles. Anyway, I think after reading everybody's comments, I'm going to continue to drive my Maxima and forget about getting a pos. Now, I can use my tax return to mod my car. Illuminas, Hotshot headers and TS ecu here I come.
