Thread just in time. I am about to do tinting (tomorrow actually) and was planning to do 20 rear, and 50 front. How dark is 20, is it really safe at nights and during rain?

Thanks.

don't buy tint from autozone..

for one, good brand is Llumar.. but look for a high quality tinting place in your area.. (go to the regional forum and ask around)

and if i were in Florida.. I'd probably go with 10% or so.. you guys get a lot of sun..

I have 15% in NY and I love it.

35% is really pointless, it does add something but not enough..

i'd like 35% on something really classy maybe a Mercedes.. so i can be seen driving it

I agree with Xplayboy69x, go with the 35% smoke. Anything darker will kill the classiness of the car. Only my opinion!!

Congrats on the new max. I've got 13% all around, I think that they are perfect and the cops haven't bothered me at all.

I'm in Miami also, I know a good tint place in Coral Gables
If you want to check mine out or more info PM me.

I've got 20% all around on my car. Its not too dark for night driving and barely enough during the day. I wouldn't mind going to 5%, but I'm just to cheap to pay for it.

20% Llumar tint all the way. I had 35% LLumar Titanium on my old car.. .hardly looked like it was tinted... 20 makes the most drastic difference and looks great on the max

Just did ProtectGard 20% rear. Looks awesome. At first its very uncomforting and new, but getting used to with time. Going to go 45% front next week.

Anyone know if reflective tinting is illegal in California? I wanted to tint my car with Llumar Platinum Plus, but don't know if any shops carry it.

I think reflective is illegal. As I was told in a tint shop, reflective tint reflects a lot of sun during sunny weather, which blinds other drivers. I think its only allowed on commercial vehicles.

Question here,

Its my first day of driving with tint and I noticed that rear defroster stripes are now much more distinguishly visible at night, and when I look at the headlights of a car behind me, its like the light is spread (reflected) out vertically thru out my rear window. Its as if you are looking through the cage, the defroster lines stand out now. Anyone have the same situation, or maybe its normal and I should get used to it??

Thanks.

Actually, tint is Illegal on ALL commercial vehicles.....

Im not sure if reflective is legal or not here in cali. I know any tint on driver or passenger side front windows is illegal here. You can do as you please with rears. From what Ive heard cops say, as long as they can see in some way, who is driving, you will rarely get screwed with. At night, my Navigation screen provides light inside, which allows anyone to kind of see who is inside. If I could I would have gone all 5%, but I dont feel like getting pulled over at the "wrong" time, and get screwed , because of stupid tint

As far as I know, reflective tints are 100% illegal no matter what state you live in.

Solar Gard replaced Llumar at some shops around here. That's what i have on my car, 13% charcoal tint. Don't go light, it'll look like crap and you'll be ****ed. After i showed my Civic buddy my 13% he paid to get his tints taken off and is getting 13% too.

not so...in South Florida, the COPS have 20% full reflective on all windows with little cutouts for their strobe lights-I think even windshield from what I've seen....

but then again with temps always basically at 70 degrees and up, you would need it to save yourself, your dash and your seats from damage....

I know that the reflective tints ARE legal in the state of Georgia. I was talking to the guy who owns the shop where I got my Max tinted... he also said that when cops come in with their personal cars they go with 20%. They won't give you a hard time if you aren't doing anything stupid!

To those who remember when they first installed their tint. How often did the bubbles pop up, large or small? A couple of small bubbles and one decently moderate 2 by 1 inch bubble popped up just right below the matrix which is also the radio antenna. When I brought my car back to the tint shop they just straightened it out, told me that I should let it heal. But how can I be sure they they wont appear again just like that? I have lifetime warranty so I am not that worried if anything serious happens, but its really dissapointing to see the bubbles the first day.

Anyone had the same experience?

Thanks

you need to see one in person to comment....they reflect when natural light hits the glass....at night or when light comes in the cabin it appears smoke....

If you are getting bubbles, whoever put the tint didn't do a good job

Here's mine with Llumar Titanium tint.
Rear window: 6% limo
Sides: 26%
Windshield: 52% (just regular charcoal)

I'm pretty happy with it. Sometimes I wish I had gone a little darker, but I havent been hassled for it by the cops yet, and if I had gone darker I probably would have gotten a ticket for it by now.
