Should 2k Max be considered as redesigned/improved/upgraded model from 4th gen?

Hi,

I was wondering if 2k max should be considered as 1st yr production of 5th gen model? or just a mere upgraded model from 4th gen?
I'm planning on buying either 2k max se or 2k I30 in a couple of months. I've been hearing that I should avoid any first yr production model vehicles since it may have numerous bugs whereas 2 or more yr into the production, the bugs are more likely sorted out by then.

thanks

YJ

Yes, the 2k is the first year model of the 5th gen:

Just try to find a late built 00 model. A 5th gen is just a redesigned 4th gen. Its not a whole new model and doesn't have kinks such as a 1995 model (first year of the A-body in the states). Nissan had time to work out most if not all of the kinks.

sorry, I'm not making myself clear some how.
I know exactly what 2k, 2k1, 2k2, 2k3 looks like. they are 5th gen and are obviously differnt from 4th gen (95-99).
What I'm asking is if 5th gen is totally differnt car from 4th gens. (ie. 6th gen is totally diffrent car from 5th gen. I think it's differnt platform).
5th gen looks a lot different than 4th gen but in other way kinda similar, shares many mechanical parts and so on.
Therefore I'm thinking it's not totally new car (so there could be unknown, well at that time, production bugs) from 4th gen so many bugs found in 4th gen are sorted out with a few exterior/interior changes. am I correct?

Well if thats the case the 04 and especially the SL shares some mechanical parts with 02/03's, same 4speed auto tranny etc. Early 5th gens share a similiar engine with 4th gens but they revised some of it and added a "K" to the engine designation. The rear beam was redesigned and none of the interior parts are a carryover or exterior parts so go figure

ScreamingVQ said it better.
5th gen = "redesigned" 4th gen. whereas 6th gen = "all new"
that was the point of my question

I was going to avoid 2k max if it was "all new" model.
Since it's "redesigned" from 4th gen (many of the bugs fixed, designed improved, etc) 2k max se will be on the top of my list in a couple of months time when I'm in the market to replace my 95 integra (I gotta sell this first though)

Keep in mind the 00 had issues that the later 4th gen sdidnot have ask someone that can do a search do it for ya: tranny, rotors etc. Get a 99 SE it will be your best bet since you think the 00 is just an "redesigned" 4th gen. good luck to ya!

I've been reading as much posts as I can and I'm aware of the rotor issues on 2k. (I'll probably look at 2k SE with around 100,000km on and it either has new brakes or it needs to be replaced any way considering the mileage) however, I didn't read much about 2k tranny issue. Could someone tell me what it is?

thanks

It was some solenoid or something that caused shifting problems on some 2000's.
