no speed limiter on 5th gen GXEs?
#1
ok...on my way to Las Vegas this weekend, i tried to test my car to see if i had a speed limiter.
i've pushed my car around 120mph on freeways before but was not able to get any faster speed due to traffic and cops.
this time, i've pushed my car over 140mph and nothing happened. some people told me that my speed limiter is set at 131mph, but i don't know how that's possible. i do have aftermarket 17s with 235/45/17s, and i know my speedometer is not 100% accurate. but i'm glad that i saw the needle going past that 140 mph mark on my speedo!

The car would go any faster than that as the speed limiter kicked in. Maybe your GXE has a SE ECU.

are you guys sure that the speed limiter is only for the autos?

It is set at 130mph...
I've hit it numerous time...
Always kicks in at an *indicated* 131mph on my speedo...

(b) nissan *accidentally* put an SE ECU in your car
(c) you have bad eyesight
(d) you have an overactive imagination

Maximum speed I've got to is 120 mph. Didn't try any further because too many cops on the LA roads.
Maybe there is a top speed difference between 2000 and 2001 models for autos. I once asked the dealer about the top speed limit for the autos and was told that ECU for 2001 autos was improved a little over the 2000 autos. If that is the case , I would guess it would probably go up to at least 135mph (manual always has a higher speed limit, they said). They also told me that 2001 auto transmission has improved a little for tighter gear shifts. Again, who knows they are telling the truth. Oh Well, more research needs to be done.
By the way, I've read several magazines regarding 0-60 acceleration for 2000/2001 auto max and consistently they were reported to be at around 7.7.8.0 sec. I though it would be faster than that because my car feels like it's in the 7.2-7.5 sec range (my friend has an 1999 TL which I can chase him down almost bumper-to-bumper, though I can't beat him) But it also seems that the 4th generation autos are faster....
2001 Sterling Mist SE auto with sport package
(love the 17" rims. Wish they were wider though.....)
33% tinted window, PIAA headlights+ side indicators.
Other Mods? nope, but waiting for 2002 260 hp.......
