Ok, what are my chances of......

Of beating my buddies WRX with my stock autotragic from a roll? His only mods are a BOV and an air intake.

He's telling me I have no chance and i'm thinking I have more hp and torque why woudn't i have a chance?

Either you will be faster, or he will.

I think it will be a close race from a roll. Racing from dead stop is a different story.

I agree with Ammi. From a dead stop the WRX might pull on you. But from a roll you have good chances.

kinda some mixed responses here, sounds like majority of you say race him from a roll and i have a decent chance?

I"m just sick of him talking down on my car and that he will kill me and blah blah. I don't even like WRX's I Just want to waste him.

From a roll my 00 5spd stays close to a stock wrx.
I think the kicker will be your tranny. Otherwise, the 3.5 should take it becuase of better top end.

Less mechanical advantage due to fewer gears. Higher ratio of power lost to heat. Slower time to lock up. Less control over gear selection.

All the things that usually make an auto slower than a manually in otherwise equal cars.

you definitely have a chance. a few weeks ago a red wrx (most likely 02/03 instead of 04), with hood scoop, was on my right lane, both waiting at the red light. there's a merging lane onto my lane about 25 yards ahead. i was ready for him when he reved his engine, and both of us punched it when the light turned green. i had a good jump with some rear tire spinning, and i was able to overtake him throughout the whole run. i had to make a right turn about 1/2 block from the merging zone to get on the road back home. so that was my little run with a wrx. it definitely made my day after i got home.

Dude, your actually gonna pull on him a wee little bit at the start...then something is going to happen...I call it "3rd gear" thats when he'll just cruise right by you But you can still tell your friend, dude I almost had you back there

I killed one off the line in my 3.0 five speed and his was a manny... granted we only took off to about 50 mph until the lane merge. I only had a GAB with a 3" pvc with scoop but he did look like a good driver. Im fearful of the fact that he just might have been avoiding an accident or missed a gear... but I knew he was trying. See for yourself though... i think the AWD, even with all that traction, losses a lot of torque because of getting all of the power to the four wheels, or as I read in some mag. But don't take my word for it. I never drove a 4wd (except for a skyline gt-r in Gran Turismo 3)

ummm youre both 4 speed autos and you have more hp and fwd. On the freeway you will win. An intake and bov doesnt really do ish for that car...except make a whole lot of noise. Turn you overdrive off and manually shift to 4th if you go that high.

Yeah a 5spd is a different story, but i dont think a 3.5 shouldnt have much of a problem on the high end. My advice would be to go from the middle of third or the top of second and turn the o/d off. A good friend of mine has a rex and we've been testing our cars as we mod since we were both stock and my car was auto, so i know that car pretty well. My 3.0 auto would toast a stock rex from a roll with a few mods.

I driven the WRX w/stick a few times and it has weak low end power. You really have to rev it to at least 3500 rpm to start to get the torque.

This is great! I must admit im posting under the influence as well
This is a 1st though, two drunks made a right I mis-read the stats on his car. I thought it was a 3.0... your right the 3.5 shouldnt have much of a problem in that case. I guess one of us drank beer & the other downed shots We both missed something, but got something else right.

ROTF. I read that and chuckled.

Listen Trey, if you are racing him from a roll, you will have a fairly good chance of hanging with him if he is stick, and beating him if he is auto. Throw the AWD launch out the window, and it comes down to hp to weight ratio. I'll put it to you this way, a stick WRX is trapping 94 mph all day, an auto WRX is trapping 91 all day. If your car is running well, he will SLOOOOOOOOOOWLY walk by you. If his car is auto (you didn't mention which) he will fall back pretty quick.

I got smacked around by a stick WRX, to the tune of 3 car lengths to 75 from a dig, and in addition to the 1.5-2 car lenghts he put on me on the launch, he was slowly pulling.

If you race, and you're brave, try and race from a 20mph roll, so you can wind out 1st gear. Or on a hwy roll, go from 50 so you can wind out 2nd gear.

GSUMAX, WRX are nice cars, but top end (esp their Auto trans WRX) they tend to run out of steam, stock for stock...They are hardly unbeatable.
