there are 2 fillaments in your brake light bulb, one is burnt. Go to your local autoparts store and get the 7443 bulbs, no the 7440. Make sure theres 2 fillaments in there.....
that should do it for ya...

I get the same problem, my left tail light doesn't light up but when I brake, it does. I don't think its the filament though because all I do is give it a tap or two and it lights up, pretty weird. Any solution for that or should I just swap them? They do work when I tap them and it raely happenens but it does.

your tail light filament is burned out (disconnected from the post) when you tap it, it is just reconnecting. if you go over a bump it will go back out. just get a new bulb
