I have the 3M tape on my 2K1 (sterling mist) and highly recommend it for paint protection, I have had my 2K1 for 1 month and no hood chips (it's winter here and there is alot of gravel and sand on our roads). I previously had this 3M tape on my 4th Gen for 2 years and had no paint problems, in fact when I turned my 1998 back into the dealer they were impressed on how good the paint still looked for a 3 year old car. I have heard that the tape can cause some problems on dark colored cars ie: Black. The reason is, as sunlight passes through the tape the tape alters the heat wave slighty and causes more heat to be trapped under the tape (same theory as to why the interior of you car gets so much warmer when sitting in the sunlight)This can cause the tape to lift on dark colored cars. But on light cars ie: white or silver no problems

I had the tape put on by my dealer before I even took the car off of the lot, but you should be able to find it at any automotive detailing Co. ie: the guys that do tinting or undercoating. Also you can have the tape applied to more then your hood, they can also do parts of your bumper and your mirrors for an additional cost of course.

Does anybody know how this compares to a bug deflector. I have heard the bug delectors would cover a wider area on the hood.

The 3m tape covers the hood, fenders, lights and fog lamps if you want.
Personally I don't like bug deflectors so I thinks it's just a matter of taste.

It is definitely recommended.
I have the 3m kit on my y2k max and is always catch people attention, because they thought is coming from the factory.

If anybody want to see the final product on my car and you leave around Dallas- Ft. Worth area let me know.
