6-speed Manual tranny guys step in.

Ok. i need to know some info. I am sending some info out to see if a company will work on a sts for us 6-speeds.

We have a reverse lock, but how does it work. Please be detailed. Also is it a rod- or cable-type shifter.

the "technology" behind it is actually pretty dumb...the reverse lock is just a small nub that bangs against the base of the shifter area. and when you lift the reverse ****, you miss the base and it allows you to travel to the reverse area. if youw ere making an STS, the adjustment would prolly be having a shorter ****. basically the **** would only go as high as where the new STS **** sits and lifting it would still bypass the base. you got a 6speed. take off your shift boot and look. it's so obvious once you look at it. taking off the boot is easy. just pull and it pops out.

rod...it's tricky cause you'll have to have a pivot int he middle, plus probably ANOTHER base or bracket to keep the pivot from flopping around. the rod still needs to reach it's contact points which represent the gears. this should be interesting...i'd be very interested in this product. mossy was supposedly on this but it seems they laid off it....how many of us 6speeders would jump on this, i can only imagine.

Not to argue, but the fact is that the 6 speed tranny has a cable shifter (two cables in fact) and not a rod shifter at all.

The shifter is attached to a rod assembly up in the cockpit where we can see it. If that rod somehow attaches to a cable then maybe it's cable, but from what you can see when you remove the shift boot, it appears to be a rod system.

Dude, take your dash apart and take some pictures and send them to the shop. They will need more info than just wether or not it's a cable or rod shifter anyways. Let them figure it out from the pics, they are the experts.

It's a cable shifter. I just checked my FSM. There are 2 cables, in fact. A 'shift' cable and a 'select' cable. I'd post a pic, but I can't select only that page. Maybe someone else can? It's page MT-11 in the FSM.

it is a cable actuated shifter, although the cable can't be seen by just pulling up the shift boot. I posted a thread on this a few days ago and got next to zero interest or input. Try calling someone that makes the shifter shown here http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=302126 , it couldn't be too hard to adapt and sell for us.

I don't see a cable. I see a rod. Not claiming to be an expert here, but here's shot if this helps:

It's cable shifter. What you are seeing in the pics is a actuating rod. A few inches further up is where the rod connects to the cables.
