Remove Engine Cover?

Was looking at the thread about carbon fiber engine cover. What would you want that for? Looks? Does it dissapate heat more effectively? Would anyone suggest removing the stock engine cover? I still don't know what it's there for.

the stock one is there for looks alone. makes engine bay look cleaner. thats why i bought the AE one for mine.
the carbon fiber is for the same thing for more money. some people like the look of carbon fiber but i dont.

I removed the cover on my 2K2. Looks fugly without it, but the engine runs a bit cooler.

I agree, took it off my 2002, and the 2004 I just got. The engine will stay cooler plus all those wires will not rub on the cover.

I also run without it. Some Altima guys at the last meet asked me if I wanted to sell it, I dont know why. I have never run with it at the track. Im sure with it on, after a few passes, the engine is running warm. Without the cover on, it cools down a lot quicker.

See sig for pic.

Does removing the engine cover for the 2k-2k1 maximas make the engine run cooler as well?

Yes, it will run cooler. I remember reading this thread about this before and people say it cools the engine a bit better.

The CF engine cover is basically a cosmetic mod. There is probably very little weight difference for something that light to begin with.

As far as the heat issue, if you're at the track, then removing it might make some difference, but in regular daily street use any difference is probably negligible.

When we have our NWMaxima.com sponsored drag event in May, maybe maybe I'll try taking the cover off and seeing if I notice any difference. So far I've only tried running with the cover on, although I pop the hood while I'm in line anyways...
