for 2k1 I believe around 175-180 WHP. You got to remember the 2k2-2k3 are overated with there HP, but underated in the torque Dept.

This is with Cattman Y and catback

The first print out is my previous best (before Y & catback) vs today.

Second print is all three runs today.

Thanks for all the props everybody. With more and more aftermarket support, I gotta believe that a lot of Maximas will be putting down very stout numbers this Spring.

I went with the Cattman exhaust upgrades mostly because he answered every email promptly and gave great before and after customer support including dyno numbers and install advice.

Manny - Tough choice between Pilots and Y-pipe, huh?

harbone - I lived in Wichita a while back. Brings back memories of lots of top speed runs on wide open interstate.

Anyway, I'll bet you and 2Phat put down similar or better numbers. You should dyno.

Nice numbers, but the car seems to be running fairly lean...

I see you have an Injen intake, I really believe that is the best intake for this vehicle.

harbone - The poor Stillen results are sort of why I went with the Y instead of headers. That and ease of install. Hopefully the Hotshot header prove out better.

blu - No doubt she is lean as hell. That is my main concern now. Before my exhaust mods, I had taken off the Injen and was running the OSCAI instead. I didn't get a chance to dyno that combo but I really believe the Injen is causing my lean condition. Look at the before graph which was also very lean with the Injen/Apexi. Any suggestions? I am debating between going back to OSCAI or getting the TS flash to correct the lean condition. Hell, if the TS adds fuel it may add even more power.

Maximized - I like the look, sound and power of the Injen, too. I also think the Apexi helps smooth out the airflow. However, I'm running pretty lean. See my response to Blu above.

Ripper, do you believe you are getting detonation that is retarding your timing? I have trouble imagining the stock fuel system is not capable of supplying enough fuel to keep up with an aftermarket intake on a normally aspirated Maxima. That would probably mean that from the factory the fuel injectors are running at least 90% duty cycle in stock form. But even then, most modern injectors can operate well at %110 or higher. I always thought when you were tuning, you tried to tune as lean as possible without seeing detonation.

Thanks, XS

Maximized - I gotta admit that when it comes to tuning, I am out of my element. I thought that ideal a/f was 12.5. Don't know why though. But it seems to make since that I am leaving power on the table because at 15/1 not enough fuel is in the mix to get the full benefit of the added air.

Having said that, I have been listening and haven't heard any pinging yet. I would think that as long as I used good fuel, things should be fine. OK, those sound like famous last words.

Any input is appreciated.

I'm out of my element as well. I'm interested in this lean condition b/c most cars run pig rich from the factory.

If the car is indeed running more lean than a factory stock Maxima that means one of two things is most probable: The fuel pump is maxed out and cannot raise the fuel pressure, or the Mass air flow sensor cannot meter all the air. The latter seems more likely b/c of the Mass Air Sensor failures many Maxima owners have experienced with and without aftermarket intakes. Have you had the TSB performed? It replaces your mass air sensor with a newer model and an ECU update is performed.

As far as pinging goes, you're not going to hear any. The digital knock sensor, which has a very keen "ear", will cause the computer to retard ignition timing well before it becomes audible.

I wonder if a simple adjustable fuel pressure regulator would do the trick. These are fairly easy to install but I don't know if they are compatible with the type of fuel pump that is in our Maximas. They used to be sold as a package with certain aftermarket intakes. Actually they were called "fuel pressure risers".

Anyway, you are still making almost 40 more horespower than a stock Maxima, so all this speculation may be wrong. If you find out anything let us know!

Jesse - Thanks for the ideas. I've had all the TSBs and recalls done including MAF & ECU flash. Fuel pressure riser may be a good idea. If I had the money, I'd put the OSCAI back on and redyno. I'll give it some thought. I may also contact TS for their thoughts although they may be biased.
