Is it possibe to have thrown codes without the SES light coming on?

A guy at City Gargage wanted me to spend $90.00 to run a diagnostic since my steering wheel vibrates slightly when I'm idling. My SES light isn't on though so he tells me it could have codes thrown without the SES light coming on.

Is this correct?

If so should I go to Auto Zone and have them try and pull codes?

Thanks

Hmmm...maybe? I've never had one in my car (not one that I didn't intentionally cause by unplugging something), so I can not say for certain. I think it could be possible, but like I said...
