Headlights gone and now what?

The headlights of my Maxima were stolen this past week. I'm sure some of you guys have gone through the same experience.

I'm thinking of putting a car alarm that would at least make it a little more complicated for these thiefs, since Nissan is clearly not doing a good job at protecting their cars from thiefs.

What do you guys recommend?

Thanks for the response.

I would recommend getting 2k-2k1 lights. Or 2k1 AE edition, since a lot of people like those (I assume you have 2k2-2k3 right?). At least that's what a lot of people who got their stuff stolen do. You'll need to do some rewiring, but that thing is pretty simple

Miguel, if you have the 2k2-2k3 model, you might be able to get the free bracket and datadot installed by Nissan (even if you don't live in NJ or NY). If you live in NJ or NY, why didn't you get yours done? If your HIDs are not OEM, you invited the problem yourself and you should not complain.

You can get the bracket put in, however this does not mean that the lights cannot still be stolen...with the bracket in place theives can still steal the lights with some more effort, causing more damage to your car...the best thing to do is probably switch to 00-01 lights like the other guy said.

I am not saying that with the bracket installed the HIDs will not be stolen. Like you said, it makes it a lot more difficult to steal and, if it gets stolen, it is a lot harder to sell because of the datadots.

Nothing is theft proof, and the more difficult it is to steal, the more will be the damage to the car. That is plain logic.

If all 02-03 Max have the new brackets and datadots, I think the theft rate will go down. Even dumb thieves know it is better not to tamper will these new installations because it takes a lot longer to steal the HIDs, which makes the chance of getting caught in the act much greater !!

Wow...a lot of replies.

I had no idea there was even a 2k1 headlight. Are those xeons also?

The car is right now at the dealership getting new lights. But I would not like to go through this again.

I'm going to ask my dealership about those brakets. I don't live in NY or NJ. I see that you are from there Kenny.

Thanks for the replies.

Good info.

Yeah just search online too. there are hundreds of complaints about the HIDs getting stolen...definately get the brackets if your going to stay with HID. Let me know how it works out because i might end up doing the same

FL has been random bro....some ppl are lucky some aren't....its much more prevalent in NY/NJ

IMO I'd just replace them and see what happens next time, the 2k-2k1 headlights look like a$$ on the car and the lighting is night and day

no, I don't have any instructions on how to convert 2k2 to 2k1, I did, however, have instruction for converting 2k-2k1 wiring to 2k2 but that's a bit sensetive subject around here I guess.
