Electronic Speed Limiter

Before I bought my 2000 Maxima GXE I specifically asked the dealer if it had a speed limiter. C&D magazine reported a top speed of 140 mph on an SE they tested, which seemed reasonable for a 222 hp car. They told me it did not, but it seems they may have just been giving me the answer I wanted to hear. A couple of days ago I found enough open space to let the car go in 5th gear only to have the ignition cut out at 132 mph. I don't get a chance too often to go 130+ mph, but it's the "principle of the thing". I hate speed limiters almost as much as Dummy Running Lights. Does anyone know how to defeat this speed limiter?

Sorry to tell you, but the GXE's are apparently speed limited.. (although a gentleman here a few days ago, claimed his wasn't)...
The working theory is that the cheaper stock tires on a GXE are a liability if Nissan let you go that fast...
The SE's are NOT speed limited (at least not at 130 mph), which is why you can get 140-150mph.... (I can attest to that fact :-)

PS. The only "fix" I can think of would be to swap your ECU with an SE's.... How badly do you need to go +130 mph ?? Try copartfinder.com , find a banged up 2000 SE, and make an offer for the ECU ....

The 5th Gen GXE's are speed limited only if the car does not have the C&C package. Does Yours have C&C? My 4th gen Had the C&C and would top out about 138, but my buddies 4th gen that did not have the C&C package would only do about 120.

There may be a limiter on all other automatics, there is probably not one on Manuals.
Mine does 141 Mph, at least!
