Technosquare ECU :Oh Yea!

For those who doubt it, Tecnosquare ECU upgrade is for real! I had my Max done on Monday and I was instatly pleased.I didn't have the car dynoed or anything but the gains are there. I live in L.A. which is only twenty miles from Technosqare so I drove down to have it done and to ask a lot of questions. I spoke to Danny over the phone before I went in and Tadashi did the upgrade (Danny told me that Tadashi is the one to really talk to). It only took an hour. I had my Injen intake on the Max when I had the ECU done when Tadashi told me that I would really injoy The gains more with the stock air box over the intake. Tadashi told me that intakes are great for dyno testing but they all loose tourqe in real driving. So I drove the Max all week with the intake on and reinstalled the stock air box with a K&N filter on Saturday and he was right. Next to the suspension work this is the best mod that i have done. I'm really injoying the new performance that the Max has and am looking forward to doing some canyon runs to really test the HP and tourqe.

Sorry for the long thread.

That is REALLY interesting...

I've never heard of the stock airbox giving more power...

Thaks for the post about the upgrade. Are you auto? I'm looking to get this mod but wanted to hear from other people abou it. I've been switching back and forth with an Injen and stock air box because of some serious knocking and pinging issues with the Injen. Injen on = knocking and pinging, scock box = no knocking and pinging... go figure. What is the going $ for the upgrade? Thanks again and enjoy

It's not so much that you lose torque. With an aftermarket intake, your torque gains tend to move to a different rpm range, generally up top where your optimum hp/tq number converge.

I will never buy or make another intake and install it on my car. The low end torque lost is not worth it for the 1-2hp top end gain and rediculious noise on the 3.5's. I have run my best times with the GAB and stock resonator so I'll stick to that and listen to the rumble of my headers.

Thanks for the review on the TS ECU I plan to get mine tuned as soon as I get my header dyno.

kcowden - Can you actually hear/feel the knocking and pinging? I have not detected this but I am concerned sense I seem to be running very lean.

You have your headers on now? (Sorry to hijack...TS ECU is in my very near future).

Dayum...that's sweet man. I'm still going turbo myself, but my backup engine will be a built N/A engine (and I'll most likely model it off your mods ).

I can hear the knocking and pinging, you have to have radio and fan off on quiet road with an uphill grade at around 2-3000 rpm's. With the stock air box it is greatly reduced. I have to guess it's the Injen. Took it into the dealer and they said it was running lean, they replaced the MAF with no change. There has been much discussion here about this phenom but no answers. I talked to TS about the upgrade but they want a couple of tests done which are impossible where I live. I love the Injen but hate the pinging, going to try to get the dealer to retard the timing 2 degrees and reinstall the Injen one last time. If that doesn't work then it's back to stock for good and bye bye Injen.

I had the knocking & pinging w/the Injen's intake about a week after installing it. The only thing I can recalled to fix the issue is that, I had the complete B&G fuel system cleaning (3-step processes) done. I now supply myself with B&G fuel cleaners and use it prior changing the engine oil. The engine doesn't show any signs of knocking & pinging now.

Interesting... how much was the cleaning and where did you get it done? I;ve heard this before and thought it was a possibility but haven't heard anything else about it. Do you just throw it in the tank prior to the oil change? Thanks

It was done by my friend's brother who is the mechanic at Toyota dealer. There are 3 items in the kit: A bottle to clean the throttle body, a bottle that is hooked to the vacuum hose near the throttle body location while the engine is running for about 15-20mins until it's empty, and the last bottle is the B&G44K (which I have a supply of it) that is to be put in the gas tank. He charged me $70 for the service, including the kit.

The kit can be purchased online or at a local dealer (though more expensive).
I've seen similar kit at a local gas station asking for $100 for the service. You need an adapter for the hook up in the vacuum line.

Has anyone posted their dyno results from the Technosquare chip yet?

I had the pinging also. After the upgrade and the stock air box my pinging went away. The Technosquare ECU up grade cost $495.

I'm so nervous about the idea of me taking out the ECU and having it shipped somewhere for modification. Man, I wish they were only 20 miles from me.
