Any TSB on "Spark Knock" problem previously described ?
Any TSB on "Spark Knock" problem previously described ?
I am a newbie so forgive if I'm doing something dumb, but I would like to know if anyone ever found a TSB on the problem I noticed on the thread below (which is from Aug 2003 and is already closed, so I copied and pasted it here for your reference).
I visited my local nissan dealership/service department today after I experienced what the service foreman thinks was a "spark knock". He informed me that there is a TSB out for some Maximas concerning the (ignition) coils. TSB says that the ignition coils on thes maxima's may burn out.
Ther service foreman could not duplicate the "spark knock" but still as a precaution has ordered new coils and will replace them once they get in. Apparently the coils are on backorder.
Unfortunately I could not find that TSB online anywhere to put it up here, so if someone finds it please put it up here so that others know what I am talking about.
Thanks.

I am experiencing something very similar to the problem described here. I have had the car to the dealer and of course could not get the knocking noise to reproduce for them. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe mine fits the bill - it is a 9-2000 build date and the VIN has a D51T8_____ instead of the D91T8_____. (am I right ?)
So if I am correct, what does this mean for me ? Does Nissan have to pay for it since it is a service bulletin versus a recall ? It is out of its 3/36K warranty but I am just under the 60K power train. And does the fact I had taken it to the dealer trying to get the problem fixed and they couldn't help me / didn't check for this service bulletin run in my favor at all ? Or am I stuck paying the cost ?
And if I am stuck with the cost, what happens to the car if I don't repair it ?
It doesn't happen all the time, mostly just when the car is climbing steep hills at speeds less than 55 MPH.
thanks, KarYn (MaxiGRITS)

I was under the impression that the coils are only covered under the 3yr/36K. Just ask the dealer or call Nissan. If it's not covered, you can order online or form David B, and change them youself. They cost ~$300.00 for all six coils.
