just got 2K maxima 5 spd...awesome!...got two more question
i just got my silver 2000 maxima 5spd (74K miles) and all the options....
so i did most of the maintnence, i cheked , the air filter and TB, they were pretty clean, the oem 17" goodrich tires kinds suck, and i guess ill change the spark pulgs too.
the tranny oil/lubericant which wasnt changed for 45K miles, would this do any significant harm to the tranny?
and does anyone know why the shift **** will not come off? its impossible to unscrew it!

To get the shift **** off, wrap it in something cloth (washcloth/towel-just one layer) and then use vise-grip pliers (lock it around the base of the shift ****) and rotate counter clockwise. It WILL come off, you just have to put some muscle into it. DONT USE A KNIFE, it will come off in one piece by just using pliers and you won't damage it.

I would highly recommend a fuel filter change (even done at the dealer, if you don't feel up to it; it can be tricky, especially if you snap part of the fuel sender housing). The "non-maintenance-item" fuel filter is a load of crap--I noticed quite an improvement after changing out mine. The fuel filter and O-ring (standard replacement when you remove the fuel pump assembly) are around $22 shipped from DAVEB at South Point Nissan. You cannot buy the fuel filter or O-ring from typical chain stores like AAP/Autozone/Pep Boys/etc., only from a Nissan dealer or parts distributor.
Also, I have a hyper-ground setup on mine and I do recall it making a small difference. I made this myself.
Maybe try cleaning the MAF sensor--purchase a set of Tamper-proof/security Torx bits (Advance Auto has a set for $10 by AmPro -- our MAF uses a T20 tamper-proof torx screw), remove the MAF sensor and VERY gently clean it with an aerosol cleaner such as GUMOUT Air Intake/Throttle Body cleaner.
MAF sensor cleaning isn't that uncommon for a tuneup procedure--my dad brought his car into a mechanic shop (a "good 'ole boys" shop as he calls it... these guys do everything, have engines torn apart laying around the garage, etc.) and they fixed his major hesitation/rough running/horrible idle/etc. by merely cleaning the MAF sensor.
