Front Brake Judder

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to find out if the TSB for front brake judder (NTB00-088) covers 01 Maximas as well. The dealer service guy I spoke to said the rotors are only covered until 12k miles, not the length of the warranty. The nissan publications site lists both the 00 and 01 Maximas under that TSB, but the only pdf files I've seen of the 088 TSB list only the 2000 Maxima on the document, not the 01. Does anybody have an idea if the 01's are covered under this TSB, and if so, is there any proof I can offer to support my case when I go in to see the dealer? Thanks.

Leon

You might be able to find a TSB in one of the sticky's.

stickies

I tried the stickies but a lot of the links are no longer good. They take you to a site that doesn't exist. Other links show the NTB00088 TSB in pdf format, but it only says it's for 2000 Maximas. Nissan's publication website

https://www.nissan-techinfo.com/niss...J747VDUW8LCPKC

says the TSB is for 00 and 01 Maximas, but I can't view the entire document. Brings me back to my original question which is: Is there anyone who might have proof (if there is any) of a TSB for 2001 Maxima front brake judder? Thanks.

Basically brakes aren't covered unless you have very low miles.

no. the tsb covers the brake JUDDER problem up to 36,000 miles, If you can prove it is brake judder. Dealer will try to rip you off, claiming that its normal wear and tear, and will turn them for you AND CHARGE YOU. Thats what happened to me, cuz i didnt know any better back when i had it done almost 2 years ago.

If you are over 36,000 just replace them. Should not cost over $230 for all four rotors. I brought mine in with 37,000 and the dealer told me it was out of warranty. I replaced all four myself for under $300 including pads. It took about an hour.

Rotor warpage covered for 3yr 36K mi.
If any problems dial 1800NISSAN1.
Might as well do some slotted rotors and OEM pads, cause NO ONE makes the right pad for 5th gens. All of them are missing the clips for OEM shim kit.

Aussie,
Thanks for the reply. I had an idea it was covered under the 36k warranty per the TSB, but now I need to convince the dealer to fix it without charging me. Do I just tell him to look at the TSB (NTB00088) and that it should be covered? I can prove it's brake judder (brake at high speed and the steering wheel starts shaking pretty bad) so no problem there. Funny, he did tell me it's normal wear and tear, what a slimeball.

maximum_rpm,
Do the slotted rotors resist warping better than the OEM rotors? If so, I wouldn't mind buying the slotted ones later on when the OEMs are due to be replaced. Nissans seem to be notorious for warping their rotors (don't know why, this is the third nissan with warped rotors, 4th gen, 5th gen, and J30). I've tried Autozone rotors before on the J30 and they were just as bad, if not worse than OEM, never again.

yeah i'd like to see pics too. i just ordered brembo blanks and metal-lux pads for the front, and was planning to change them out as soon as the rotors arrived. whats this about a shim clip? the pads came with a sort of overhanging metal clip thing approx 1 inch long, is that it?

I wish I had a picture to show you guys but Im on 13" brakes now. I might have my old rotors, but for those who will under the next things I say, please post pix.
4th gen and 5th gen pads are the same size , since brake companies think if the size is the same, the applications are the same (ie 95-03 Maximas)
Guess what, they are different on all 2000+ maximas, there is a new design of a clip on the top part of the caliper bracket, a shim kit that requires to 'loop' into the clip on the brake pads. its esentially a spring kit. On the 4th gen, they used spring clips on top of the brake pads, and if you look at the brake pads on top, you will see two holes per brake pad. If you see those, just get 4th gen brake hardware from Nissan, or get OEM pads.
Slotted rotors wont warp as much, but for those that have never braked hard on slotted rotors, the sound you will hear is normal. Its not warpage.
Any Q's holla back.

You see the 'sensor' (loop part im mentioning)
5th gens have them on all 4 of the brakes. When you pair them up, left and right they are towards the top. Look thru the spokes of your wheels and you'll see what I mean.
