A good suspension setup

Im replacing my tein\kyb setup for one that is not as aggressive and harsh. Too bad the search is down, im sure there are tons of posts for this topic. Anyways, I was looking into H&R and Bilstein, heard those two work great together, however it doesn't look like Bilstein makes applications for Max's. What other shocks would work well with H&R? And should I look into other springs? Feedback is appreciated.

Before i had the Max I had a -98 Elantra, yeah I know they suck, but it was my first new car. I had H&R Springs with GR-2's on it. The ride was extremely firm. At the time I loved it for the handling aspect but now I am looking for something just little firmer than stock with the drop. How are the H&R's for the max?
