Exhaust Question
Exhaust Question
Hey guys, I need your help. I am wondering if just removing the resonator from the stock exhaust system and welding a piece of straight pipe in it's place will change the way the exhaust sounds? I have listened to a couple of max's with aftermarket mufflers and that is not the sound I want on my wife's 03, plus they are too expensive just for a muffler, but if this will change the sound a little, I can get this done for about $20.00 at the local muffler shop. I am not looking to put a new exhaust on the car, just maybe modifying the factory one. I don't want to sound ricey when I have to get down on the car to blow by someone on the highway, I just want nice deep tone. If this will work for what I want, then I will do this and just add new tips to the stock muffler, and maybe paint the stock muffler with anodized paint to change the look. Please let me know what you think.
I take it your talking about getting an unresonated b-pipe (the pipe after the cat and before the muffler). You can buy them, and I personally like the sound of it through the stock muffler.

Just look for the one with the stock exhaust system and an unres. b-pipe.

I am just wanting to cut out the stock resonator and weld a piece of straight pipe in it's place. Has anyone done this to their Max, if so, how did it sound? Also, will removing the cat and running a CustomMaxima race pipe throw any codes? I do not have to pass emissions only the OBD test, and if it throws a code and causes the SES light to come on, it will not pass.
