Nismo engine mods on VQ35 = +10 rwhp?!

SCC, in their latest issue, test a 350Z in stock, Nismo S-Tune, and Nismo R-Tune flavors. The total amount of Nismo mods installed, in R-tune spec, is over $10,000.00 worth...

They ran a dyno: Stock 350Z, Stock w/Nismo intake, and Stock w/Nismo Intake, Cams, Headers, Exhaust. It's the last one that interested me!

After over $4,000.00 worth of Nismo mods (the cams, headers, and exhaust each cost over $1,000.00!) this combo was thrown at the mercy of the dyno...and the results were....

(drum roll)

10 rwhp.

Yeah, I know. Shocked the heck out of me, too (and SCC's editors.)
Funny thing was...the intake alone was good for +6 rwhp gain! I forget what the +tq was but it was not much more substantial than the HP #'s.

Now, the VQ35 in the Maxima is rated down 20-30 hp from the 350z version.
Would the Max's VQ35 respond better to the mods than the 350z version? I would love to own those Nismo cams and headers but I am not gonna take out a loan for $2,000.00 for 10 rwhp. From what I've seen just throwing an intake, y-pipe and catback on a stock Max should be good for that kind of HP gain!

i saw the article...it was SAD. all that money for almost no HP..Maybe it was the $hitty CA gas that robbed a few HP...

this means the stock 350z intake and exhaust are pretty efficient already. just get a nismo cat-back for show.

how long ago did they dyno the stock 350z? if they did stock dyno in the winter and they just do the dyno after all the mods recently....you might see some difference in result due to change of ambient temp.

What about area under the curve? Peak numbers are great, but they don't tell the whole story. Where is SteVTEC when you need him?
