reduced 95% of bose sub rattle

i know we can never completely remove the rattle since it is a bad design. i dynamated the rear deck a few weeks ago and that made some diffirence.
well it was still rattling. so i stuck my head into the trunk from the rear seat to listen for the rattles and i discovered two things.
i fixed them and reduced most of mine. before anyone comments, yes it is a ghetto fix. but you cant see them and it fixed the problem

1st thing
the place where the child seat connects to the rear deck. the piece of metal hits the plastic cover. so i stuck a piece of cloth between the two as a buffer. it also presses the rear deck cover down

2nd thing
the trunk lid. it is completely hollow!! it isnt really a cause of rattle but it amplifies the rattle. to see what i mean open the trunk and bang the trunk lid. it sounds like those big chinese gongs!!
so i stuck a butt load of old shirts in the holes and pushed them into all the corners. i think i used 20+ shirts

Nice fixes. Too bad half of the rattles are coming from the 2 metal rods that hinge your trunk lid.

Nice....I need to do this too. The BOSE saub is rattling like crazy whenever I listen to Rap. I'll probably dynamat it. Your setup looks good.

BTW, two words....DIGITAL CAMERA.

actually i fixed that too.
wrapped the rods ( ) with cloth where they touch each other when the trunk is closed.
also wrapped them where they both pop into that plastic bracket in the middle

i have no idea what they were made of. i just used a big stack of t-shirts i dont wear anymore.
you could use anything really (towels, socks) anything cloth to deaden the vibration and echo

i dont know if dynamat will work. you need something to fill in all that space.
what would be best is to find one of those places that spray the foam stuff that dries like styrafome (spl) or insulation
it would fill in the space, deaden the sound, but still be light weight

Stop lying about rattles....you know you just did that so you would always have a t-shirt available for any occasion....

But seriously - isn't the trunk lid kind of heavy now? Does it still stay up on its own?

Jason I think we are having a fairfax county "war of the cheap, sometimes ghetto, mods" between the two of us....

I took my car to nissan 4 times and they could never fix the rattle problem. I took the my car apart and ended up replacing the screws holding my sub with better screws...no more problems.

Good work soonerfan. Agreed, Dynamat (or equivalent) is the way to go on this one. I did this awhile back and the results were impressive. I found the biggest source of the problem to be the seatbelt units. For anyone interested, I posted a how-to here: http://www.innerbean.com/housecor/bose_deck_fix.html
