Getting a strange creeking sound on my '02 when I press the clutch. Anyone have the same. You can hear it from the outside.

The creaking sound I had was the clutch spring. I don't know if it could be heard outside the car. A bit of grease where the spring is attached took care of it.

It's the clutch return spring.

Be sure your parking brake is set and that the engine is off. Look under the dash and upwards. Get some silicone grease and put a dab on your finger (a very SMALL dab). Then push the clutch pedal down and rub that on the spring.

I greased the spring with no success. The creek is coming from the tranny when the clutch is depressed. Let me know your outcome. Can anyone comment on the mechanics of the clutch?

I hear something when I let my clutch go after taking it out of first gear.
It only happens when it is cold, not sure what it is. It sounds like a spring pop, this started after I had the TSB done on the clutch. I am still looking into the noise, if I find anything I will post it.

This sounds like the same problem I had before the TSB on the clutch. After having it fixed the "howling" went away but it's back again.

Yes, I have the same "creeking" sound in my '02 Max. I believe it is from the "fingers" on the clutch plate being depressed and making a little noise. The fingers on the plate are spring loaded and under very high pressure, but there is metal to metal contact. The noise is annoying, but it does not indicate a problem of any type. This is a very different sound from the clutch "howl" that yielded a TSB.

By the way, I once had a Honda that did the same thing once I reached about 80k.

How many miles does you Max have? Mine has 44k. Did you bring your '02 in for service? If so what was the outcome?

Thanks,

Bob

I have about 49K. I did not bring it in for service. As far as I can tell it is normal for clutches to make this sound as they age.
