Help troubleshooting engine performance on my 2000 max

Hey guys,
I need some assistance on how to troubleshoot this VQ30DE max engines I got a couple problems on my 2000 max with the 5-speed

First, it bogs down or chokes after 3000-3500 rpms, its not a lot but it loses a lot power.
Second, sometimes when i get on it the engine pings badly, i am running 93 octane so it isnt that, and it doesnt do it all the time either.

So i am assuming some type of fuel or timing or sensor problem, is there a way to get some codes out of the computer? the SES light has never come on....

Thanks for the help

Mine had similar problem then it got much worse and the ses light finally came on. Autozone reads the code for free. I bet it is the MAF sensor. I bought mine from jerryromenissan.com with the sale30 promotional code going on right now. Installed it my self, cleaned the throttle body and whole air assembly, then had Autozone turn the ses light off. Whole different car after this. An o2 sensor might do the samething.

Autozone will pull codes for you for free; however, I dont know if anything will come up if the SES light isnt on.

Fuel filter. It's a royal b****, I'd personally have the dealer do it, but the "non-maintenance-item" fuel filter on our maximas DO clog up, which can cause fuel system restrictions (causing pinging, performance problems, etc--mine had a dramatic increase in performance after changing it)

Also, be sure your ignition coils aren't failing... if you're still running the old coils without the silver/grey dot on them, they could likely fail, causing strange performance and pinging problems. Eventually the SES light will turn on when it gets bad enough, if it is indeed the coils.
