Had my car for a total of four months, and the clutch has decided to fail. Dealer says I might have to pay for it because its a wear and tear item. I haven't raced the car, and generally don't do a lot of agrressive shifting. WTF, 5000 miles and 4 months of mostly highway miles, what's the clutch made of paper? And they want me to pay for it. F^&%ing A$$h*&$#$. No way the clutch should be slipping after 5000 miles. Nissan may have great engine, etc. but these schmucks won't stand behind their product, no wonder they were/are losing money hand over fist, no one wants to deal with them

Sorry needed to vent!

Any suggestions what I can do in terms of getting them cover this under warranty???

ummm, yeah

Inform your ever so knowledgable dealer that everything is covered- bumper to bumper for 12months/12K... thats brakes, headlights, valve stems, sunglass holder, floor mats.. you name it.. its like a federal law or something. (heh, theres actually a name like the Morgans Car Act of 1908 or something silly like that - btw, dont quote me on that

no really, all items are covered during this period. they can deny you for abuse, but THEY have to prove it. its not on you during this period. thats why everyone was upset about rotors because they were warping at 15K - outside the 12K limit.. but with TSB we are getting coverage anyway.

lastly, call Nissan NA.. they need to know the dealer is stealing customers money. that is what they are trying to do. Nissan pays less on the labor rate than you would if they can convince you that youre at fault.

Thanks Tim. Just got off the phone with Nissan NA, and my field rep said that he sees no reason that it should not be covered under warranty. So I have to tell the dealer to call Nissan NA and try to get this worked out. May not need to go to another dealer after all. Let's see!

Nissan Na. Is that the same as 1800-Nissan-1? That's the national customer service line. You can try this also. Have your vin ready. They can contact your dealer and help on your behalf. It's designed for newer cars under warranty like yours.

Good idea... If you can get Nissan to tell the dealer to do it -- more power to you Good luck!!! There's no way a clutch should go out that soon!!!!

Personally I'd rather take the car to a dealer willing to do it in the first place. If they have to be told by Nissan to do it.. they might not be that careful. Just a thought... let us know how it works out.

Hey max2001se, it sound like you felt on a moron, a guy has to be a very very bad driver to screw up a clutch at 5000M.
It obvious that your clutch was a piece of crap, I would fight for it, but the best idea is probably to go visit another dealer and play the I dont know game and perhaps complaint about this if your car is still drivable.

Good luck & dont give up.

Cheers

Yeah!

Got a call from the service manager, and the dealership will cover the entire clutch replacement under warranty. Didn't need to get Nissan NA involved. i guess the fact that the certain clutch parts are on back order made the guy wonder if there is bigger problem in the 00-01 5spd. They didn't even bother stripping the entire thing down to figure out where it was failing, just going to replace the entire clutch assembly - once all the parts come in. In the mean time don't bother trying to race me - I gotta gimpy clutch, car runs but I gotta really baby her!

and Thanks to everyone who gave me input.

Re: Yeah!

Great news! But make 100% sure they don't use a Key Value Clutch kit! I doubt it's even available for the 2000+ maximas but PLEASE CALL TO MAKE SURE! OEM Genuine Nissan only clutch parts!

Thats the number you need to call. it is the customer service number to inquire to just about anything.

Piece of advice...don't expect that everything will be solved by calling this number. they don't always fall to their knees and start to worship you. I can personaly attest to that!
