Hesitation, Engine Knocking, NO SES?

This is driving me crazy; my wifes 2K Maxima Automatic has been engine knocking off and on now for 3 months (she only uses premium) and now when the car is first starts and you begin to drive, it hesitates. Almost like a person driving a stick for the first time and makes it lurch back and forth. However her car is an auto. What really gets me is there is no SES light on and never has been. I tried to find info on here but of course you cannot do a search w/o being a donating member and oh now they do not take donations currently, and the mere 1000+ pages of post is a little much to go threw. SO PLEASE if anyone has a clue please post. THANKS

The problem with that TSB is that it applies to 2002-2003, I have a 2000 Maxima. Also the description of the problem does not sound like what My Max is doing. But I do appreciate the link.

i have the same prob. i changed the pvc, tranny flush, cleaned the throttle body, recharged the K&N. these things helped. then i changed the spark plugs and now she misfires. i am going to change the coils. ppl here have suggested that once i changed the plugs, it made the coils problem worse. there has been hesitation for the last 5 months. i guess i am going to have to cough-up $300 and replace them. someone here also suggested the VIAS. but that applies to hesitation when the rpm is 5K and higher

Had similar problem with my 2000 i30, but after awhile it did throw the SES light and it turned out to be the ignition coils. Could also be the gas. I found that when I changed stations to a newer one my pinging improved, but didn't go away completely until I changed all 6 igniton coils. When it finally set off the
SES light, had the code pulled at Autozone for free and it turned out to be P1320.

Well tomorrow I am taking it in to my father in laws shop. He runs a Chevy dealership here and they are going to hook it up to their diagnostic computers. Hopefully will find out what is going on after the high tech diagnostic computer monitors it. Will let you know.

Well found out the problem, but it took awhile. We checked the back press. on the exhaust to see if the cat. converter was clogged, NOPE. Checked the fuel pressure and it was fine. So mechanic got it down to the MAF. We replaced it and put a new OEM air filter in it, DING DING DING. It fixed it like new, he!! it almost felt like I put a Turbocharger on it, b/c it had lost so much power and now I had it back and it runs like a champ. YEEEEE HAWWWW
