should i change fuel filter

Last friday me and my girl went on a little road trip to upstae NY, It was great, the road was empty and i was able to do a nice 100 mph + most of the way. At one point i was cuising along going about 100mph w/ the stereo blasting loud enough not to notice my engine reving way to high, yea i was in third not fifth, and was going that fast, in third gear mind you for about 10 min, then the engine cut out on me, I slowed down and it kicked back in, so I started cruising again, a little bit later same thing happened. then i noticed what gear i was in. aside from being completly ****ed that i had my engine redlined for ten minutes straight, i got to wondering if the engine cut out b/c it couldnt keep up w/ fuel demand, and if that could be due to a fuel filter that might be in need of replacement? anyone?

I wouldn't single in on the fuel filter necessarily... although I find it odd your engine would just "cut out" like that. The fact is, a lot of people have noticed this random "cutting out" problem on 2000's, most noteworthy are the incidents where it happens with the engine returning to idle. I'm wondering if there's an ECU "feature" being triggered here? (kinda like the Fuel Cut "feature", except this one stalls the engine)

As for running it at redline so long, I'd hope your engine is OK, seeing as oil pressure and flow should be very high... the only thing to worry about is whether or not the engine overheated. Did you glimpse at the temperature gauge during this run?

If you start noticing any issues down the road (burning oil, losing oil, etc.) take it to a mechanic and tell him the situation... see if they'll do a compression test to verify you didn't break anything inside

yea, the temp never went above normal range, as for the engine there are no new noises and she still runs smooth and quite,i am hoping my little redline marathon didnt screw anthing up inside. But that is a good idea and for some piece of mind next time i do my plugs i will definitly slap on a comp. test .

it could have something to do with the limp mode nissan decided to include.

i figure redlining for minutes would at least attempt to trigger it...
