VQ35 vs. supercharger

I have a 2000 max gxe 5spd. How difficult is it to swap the 3.0 engine to 3.5? I figure that if I install a supercharger spending anywhere from $3000-$4000 and get gains as good as a 3.5 with minor bolt ons, might as well buy the 3.5l engine for 800-1200 and have it installed for 500 along with misc. parts to total up to around 2000-2500 AND have a more reliable car. HOWEVER, I dont know if this is doable.
Thanks in advance

I'm not sure what you mean by similar HP. A SC on your engine should get you north of 270hp to the wheels. I don't think I've heard of a 3.5l near there...not with a few "simple" bolt ons. I'd supercharge it man!

How hard is the install from 3.0 to 3.5? I'm looking to do this swap in my 4th gen soon and turbocharging it This summer. Where do you guys finde the VQ35's for a reasonable price?

I agree with DrVolkl. I don't know of any way to beat the added horses of a SC on the 3.0 with only a 3.5 with "some bolt ons"

2k2 6sp with minor modifacation can kill an auto supercharged 00/01.

With the times you see people run on the track, you can get close to 270 NA with every bolt on

Get someone to take you a ride in a VQ30 SC, then go for a ride in something with a VQ35. I think you will like the VQ30 SC. I did see where you can stroke your VQ30 with the VQ35 parts and then SC that and id bet you could have somelace around 400whp with that combo, but it will be alot of work and $$.

There is a huge difference in HP with different pullies. Get the SC if you want speed!

I hate to bring up the simplest answer, but....why don't you just trade in your 2k max and get a 2k2-3 maxima.....the price difference won't be much more than you'd spend to swap engines or SC it...PLUS you have a newer "rest of the car"....

I'm with irish44j... then you'll have the option of throwing a suprcharger or turbo on your new 02-03 max. if you supercharge your 01, you wont have much more options adding more HP to your car

Agree. It's not worth it to go through all of the headache to do the swap. The amount of money that you will spend to do it will easily make up for the difference.

Once lesson that I've learned is that if you think your project will cost X amount of dollars, always add ~25% more. Even when you think you thought of everything, other things will come up that you didn't think about.

I'm with these guys. You can get a great price on a 3.5 these days. Here is one of the nicest 3.5's on the .org for 17,500

From what I have read from most people you cant do an automatic to 5 spd for the amount of money you are talking about doing an engine/tranny swap.

i say get the new car. reliabilioty is everything plus a warranty. That way you can get all the tsb's done and also have confidence that your car will keep working. Also is not done correctly (engine swap or SC) you might have to by a whole new engine. especially if the engine you buy is a dud
