Here are pics of what I believe could be the cause of our foglights cracking so easily. Poor ventilation...these came stock on our fogs:

Do previous gen's foglights have similar vents? Seems like a random thought, but I'd give it a try if it works. My lights are both cracked, btw.

 

I have a 2k2 and my fogs have little black bent vent tubes instead of the cloth.

 

Yeah I don't have the pink cloth either, but just holes and mine still cracked.

 

Both of mine are cracked as well.

 

They crack from excessive heat that aftermarket bulbs give out.

IGOR... You say "Get HID's". What did you buy, where from, and at what cost. I was about to order PIAA - 55 Watt Super Plasma H3 Bulbs. Are these bulbs that could potentially create to much heat?

 

i have 6500k HID from www.proxenon.com I think they are 400-500$ range

I have a friend who has PIAA SP and his just cracked too.

 

You can also cover the front with 3M tape. It won't stop heat cracking but will keep rocks from braking the glass. PM if interested.

 

The pink cloth (nylon) is under the black rubber tube. The nylon is there to keep water and dirt out. I have my suspicions that the rubber tube (in the shape of a J) would handle the dirt/water problem alone.

The quick response is appreciated. Although I do not want to by the SP's if they are going to potentially crack the glass, 4-5 C notes for the HID's is out of reach right now...

 

What do the PIAA fogs run? $.$$

 

I am on my 3rd fog light now, called Nissan and told them that their lights suck a$$

 

I priced the PIAA bulbs (55 Watt Super Plasma H3 Bulbs) at $46/Pair from www.Optauto.com.

 

Don't let anyone tell you the heat from the aftermarket bulbs crack the fogs. There are dozens of people running factory fogs with cracked lenses. The fogs are prone to cracking and there is no single reason why. I've been running PIAA Super Plasma's for 4 mths. with no issues.

 

Thanks for posting that housecor, I had decided this evening to go with them anyway. I did the foglight rewire Saturday and now I want white light (not yellowed light) in the fogs and white markers in the headlight assy's. The car looks really sharp at dusk running the fogs without the headlights. I've seen several other Max owners do a double take. you know... "what! How did he do that? Mine won't do that?" I'll also be putting in the brighter reverse lights and then installing the clear side markers. I like these inexpensive mods. Snows come off Saturday and then a good detailing will be done. I'm glad the season for keeping Max spotless is here.

Both of my fogs are cracked and I still have stock bulbs. One of them also has a chip in the crack which leads me to believe that a rock is the cause.

 

Yeah it has to be rocks causing all this. I have 3M protective material on my fogs. It didn't help one of my fogs because about 8 months after installing that my drivers side fog cracked again. I removed my fog light and took some wide scotch take and taped the sides which weren't covered my the 3M tape to prevent water from entering. The 3M thick tape will keep the water out of my fogs so I'm not really worried about it anymore. I think the 3M stuff is strong enough to keep everything together.

 

Which fog cracked? Mine cracked on the passenger side, which seems to be a majority of the time for most owners. The 3M is thick enough to keep things together. My last light, before 3M, cracked then a stone went straight through leaving a hole the size of a 22 bullet (maybe I was shot).

 

I hope all of you have phone Nissan Canada or Nissan USA on this problem with our lights. I just got off phone with NIssan Canada ,as I call them about there lights monthly to tell them they are ****ty. We have to keep bugging them so something will be done.

 

Nissan must have put as much dependability consideration into the fog light construction as they did the paint that comes off if you as much as fart on it... Idiots
